Does use of headset eliminate Buttkicker?

Thinking of getting a headset and this came to mind. When using a headset do you mute the volume coming out of your speakers? With no volume the buttkicker wouldn't work. Can you leave the volume on? If you left volume on would it interfere with the headset sound? GT-6 is the only game I play if that makes a difference.

In GT6 the BK is sound driven, so using the headset would mean no effects

On the PS3 you can select multiple outputs for sound in the options menu. Use one for your headphones and the other for the buttkicker.
