Doesn't it seem like PD has made improvements to sounds? (For newer cars)

I (and perhaps others) have noticed that some of the new Vision Gran Turismo cars have higher quality engine sounds, and the throttle application effects have been improved too.

One popular example is the Subaru Viziv, which I think PD did a great job with. It has that famous growl of a Subaru boxer engined sports car, unequal length headers and all.

One more example is the Lotus 97T, which is an excellent reproduction of the real life counterpart:

The leading video is one sample of a source for comparison of the Lotus 97T in real life, and the one in Gran Turismo 6.

While it can be argued that the game sometimes misses key features even in the best sounding cars, a point to note is the improvement made.

Now the point that I would like everyone's input on is, the noticeable difference in sound quality of many of the Vision Gran Turismo cars such as:

-Throttle input's influence on engine sound
-Actual exhaust/engine note accuracy
(Subaru sounds like a Subaru/V8 sounds like a V8 etc.)

Does anyone feel like these improvements are a result of PD's "new" method of producing sounds?

If not please express your point(s) of view.

I think the 97T sounds great in that video, but awful in GT6. Most of the VGT cars sound dreadful to me as well. It doesn't help that PD use the exact same ear bleedingly rotten transmission whine sample for all cars in the game. Most cars just sound so cold, digital, & harsh. Not at all analog & warm like real cars are.

The newer cars and VGT cars sound really amazing , i love the Madza LM55 and the Subaru VIZIV VGT in terms of sound ... but , there are areas where the sound engine is kinda lackluster .

As mencioned above , every car uses the exact same transmission whine , and gear changes sound very unrealistic , it sounds like a loop playing over and over again , doesn't sound natural , and the gear changes themselves are instant , causing this problem.

I know a lot of people rave about the "new" engine sound on some of the VGT's and the 97T and the Ralt for example, but to me they just sound really irritating, buzzy, distorted, metallic and obviously generated by a "sound engine" rather than sounding more natural as samples often do to my ears. I supposed it's a tiny step in the right direction as the old sound samples were/are horrible for the most part but they are still a long way from a realistic sounding and complete sound package IMO. Generic transmission whine, generic instantaneous gear changes, lack of rattling in the cabin, tire chirping under load, awful tire squeal noises and so much more are all important elements in the overall sound package that seriously affect the immersion level of any game.

You guys make some good points about the repetitiveness of sound effects.

They could add more varieties of transmission whine, turbo spool, and Turbo blow off valves. Etc.

I'm thinking the Lotus sounds good still. It sounds like the real thing, despite being off in a few places and leaning more toward computer synthesis than natural.

Also the Subaru VGT sounds like it should, flaws aside. If you just heard audio of it, you'd most likely be able to conclude that it was a Subaru.

I use a logitech surround sound with a ten inch sub' so that helps a little.

But aren't the VGT car fantasy? Creating a made up sounds on computer may well be producing a better sound than PD's current recording methods for physical cars.

That's the odd thing about it.
But I say keep the method they use for the vision gt cars, and just continue improving on it.
