Doing a ps3 system backup, backs the save file up?

Question is on the title.

Please be kind as i NEVER did any backup, that is why i ask, bought ps3 specially for GT5, and i am already putting it through hard stuff ( Lots of hours ON, playing GT5, and the endurance races are just right around the corner, i plan to make the 24h on one go with 3 other drivers to swap with :dopey: No pause button allowed )
 
I'd wait for the save-patch that is coming "soon"

As for backing up, yes a system backup will back-up the save; however it's pretty much useless because that backup of the copy-protected data can only be restored on the system from which it came. So if your machine breaks and you get a replacement, the GT5 save won't restore.
 
Doing a full backup does backup your save file, yes... When you restore, you have to restore the full backup though.

Pretty important addition because it makes the backup almost worthless.

Damn that is somehow dumb! If I know my ps3 is failing and living its last days, i would go for a system backup that i could later restore on my new Ps3... I really dont know what they were thinking of when they made that option that way...


Is there any confirmed statement from PD or Sony that GT5 will get a Patch which will make backup saves possible?

A system backup is useful in the event of an hdd failure.

If you get another PS3 and the old one still works you can use system transfer to copy your entire PS3 from old to new one.
 
I wih they'd hurry up an Release the Patch i'm at 84% in GT5 , If I lost the Game Save File due to PS3 Failure or Corruption i'd be Mortified :nervous:
 
I'm chomping at the bits waiting for this update.

my PS3 YLOD'd on me couple weeks ago, reflowed and got it working again last night.

not sure how long it will last but it's working as of now.

I'll have to get a new PS3 sometime, would be nice to have my GT5 game saves.

now only if Atlus got a clue... all the countless hours spent on Demon's Souls... totally lost when I switch to the new system. OMG... :irked: :banghead: 👎
 
The hardware locking gamesaves are as stupid as them selling movies on BD discs that only played on the first player you stuck the disc in and then became locked to that player.

Be that as it may, I have diligently made a backup of the PS3 every coupl edays just in case :lol:

I really wonder, how can you know your ps3 is failing and living its last days? :S
I mean realistically it could happen instantly without warning, and what you think are warning signs could be nothing and it could live for another 10-20 years.

Also how come it seems all you guys in the US keep getting dead PS3?

I've never heard of a single one die from australians. Most people I know they buy one and they keep the same one. They are solid machines.

My mate also has had his fat ps3 for ages and has literally been running gt5 24x7 since launch for b spec, again, literally 24x7.
I dont think we've even considered them even potentialy close to dying, and I see all these people babying the ps3s and stopping every hour to cool them down, and you guys still get YLOD, I dont even know exactly what that is.
I have 2 slims, can that even happen on a slim?

The only thing I worry is the hdd breaking or the ****** clunky blu ray drive, not the ps3. I assume YLOD is not related to this.

I also fling my ps3 slim around a lot, to my friends house and between cabbinets TV's and it gets a lot of knocks and bangs, I try to be carefull though as they feel fragile movement wise, but kept in the same place I never see it dying, even If i run it non stop for 10 years.

btw i just relalised this sounds like US console bashing, lol I'm literally just curious why so many dead ones seem to come from the US as I know from people personally and AU forums many people with FAt ps3 and slims and barely a word of them dying here.
I mean compared to the xbox 360, you have to replace them every 2 weeks it seems in AU weather.

I got one an it started to graphical gltiching within a week and it was babied so hard, in a cool good airflow area. I think the mistake I did was put it vertical. Also everyone I know with a 360 has changed theirs like 3 times already.
My ps3 on the other hand I shove anywhere, in tight cabbinets without any airflow.
I have given up on keeping it cool, the bottom of can literally burn your hand after long playing, and the hdmi cable in the back is melting from the exhuast heat lol. And I'm not even concerned about heat. IMO The slims mainlyy die from knocks , hdd failures and crappy laser mechanisms from what I can tell on mine.

As I was when mine went at level 21, then moved house and have no internet till the new year. Started again on a new system and back up to about level 15 now but rapidly losing the will to live as I have lost all my free cars too. Just getting the old one repaired after christmas and doing a data transfer, hoping the patch comes out sooner rather than later.
 
This probable the most important patch update for most of us, and i would rather see this soon than any other patch or fix, because the hours spent on GT5 and the difficulty of some of the tests and achievements, can be lost in the blink of an eye, by any one of us, for no fult of our own.

I truly don't understand locking any of the saves this way, been as their are other ways to avoid save sharing and cheating.

If PD does fix this, the next target should be SONY, to get rid of this for all PS3 titles past and future.

That last part is incorrect. I have verified that you can perform a Backup/Restore going from a Slim 120 to a Slim 160. Two completely different systems, my save file worked fine. The only problem is that some of the car thumbnails in the Garage needed to be recreated (about 50% of them).
 
So is this backup save-patch coming in this next update??
 
I upgraded my hdd from the original 80gb to a 500gb. Yes, backing up keeps the save game. Your music playlists get deleted. As do you chromeline or stealth car dlc, so you just redownload them afterwards. So, sorry if you've upgraded them.

The garage thumbnails aren't even in save data, just game data. i deleted mine by accident once and the same thing happened to me :dunce:

As for when it says that it will not restore "copyright-protected data," I just think it means movies from PSN and such.
