Door handle Broken. Help Needed!

So while washing my 1998 Toyota Tacoma today I was scrubbing the door handle (used to be my dad's truck and he never washed it so it was really dirty) and I when I opened the handle to get better access the plastic around the handle snapped. The handle itself is now hanging by just the metal rod connecting it to the mechanism. I need to figure out how to remove the handle. I removed the screw on it but it still won't come off. Is there a special trick to taking it off? I don't think the door card needs to be removed because the handle would need to come off before that happened. Any suggestions or ideas?

By the looks of it, you'll have to remove the whole door card, which will be quite simple, and the handle will come with it. Then the handle should be able to come out of the door card.

^^ Only way to go. Be careful when taking the door-panel(or card) off; You can damage the clips that hold it to the door or the door-panel's abs plastic that holds the clips(covered by your lovely upholstery).
 
Alright I'll try taking the door card off tomorrow. I've done some research and it seems the only hard part is removing the window winder but it's doable. Thanks for the input.
