download limits for online gaming

im finally upgrading to broadband, and i am wondering, do you need a large download limit for online gaming??? what sort of limit would u need to be connected with xbox live and play every other day for a good hour or so??? maybe longer??? most companies i have spoken with have said at least 21gb download limit.
 
21gb??? What are you talking about? First of all, your upload bandwidth will be more of a bottleneck, than your download bandwidth. So, as long as you have over 2megabytes per second or better, you'll be fine for your download. Ideally, you'd want a 386kilobyte per second upload speed or better. If you can get FIOS (Fiber Optics), then your gaming experience will actually be noticeably faster. Before that, you won't see huge differences in network speed.

He's not talking about bandwidth. He's talking about a limit of 21gb downloaded per month, after which you either pay extra, or your internet stops until the next month.

Virgin offer unlimited dwnloads for all their packages.
 
At an hour a day, you would need roughly 210gb a for a month's use.

At peak: 2mb/s * 60sec/min * 60 min/hour * 30 hours of gaming = 216000 mb/month / 1024 mb/gb ≈ 210 gb/month
 
I didn't realize ISPs still had download limits. I've yet to hit mine, if I even have one.

Bandwidth requirements are pretty light, actually.. I'm on 768K DSL and I can play online with no problem.

Well, most every Service Provider out there has bandwidth limits. It's only a rare few that go un-capped, with a limit to how much is actually downloaded during a certain time frame.
