Okay, I have 2.3MB Tsicali Broadband, not the best I know but still, I can't have a download speed this slow:

So what can be the cause of this? Is it just Tiscali sucking at their finest or is there an outside factor to do with my PC?

HELP!!
:scared:

... try
star downloader
and refreshing your connection... thats uber slow.
What cables are you using? my router goes to 52.0 mbsec and i can download at ~100kb/s-120

to start
does it always go this slow on every download?
Are you using wireless?
if not, is the wire a telephone-line or a different cable?
when is the last time you restarted your computer?
do you run Limewire or similar?

I ran it for a little longer and it crept up to 7 KB/s! :dopey:

Tulok
does it always go this slow on every download?

Usually I get around 35 KB/s..

Are you using wireless?

No.

if not, is the wire a telephone-line or a different cable?

I believe it runs through the phone line, but it is a Broadband connection.

when is the last time you restarted your computer?

I think I had it running for around 4 hours before then.

do you run Limewire or similar?

I do have Limewire but it wasn't open at the time.

Go to www.speedtest.net, and see what results you get. If it's slow, then it's Tiscali, as they SUCK. Period. If it's not slow, then it's just the website, as I have come across some that slow before.

But it's worth going through what Tulok said too, as that could be contributing to it.

Yep, that's Tiscali at their full glory... That's about under 1/6th it should be for 2.3MEG. I can't suggest anything else but move ISPs, as I know a few people that have yelled at them constantly and there's no improvement (one being Jondot - he moved to BT in the end...).

*Clears throat*

The chances are it'll be Tiscali. That speedtest won't help you much - I find all of them gave me an unrealistic download rate in comparison to what I could actually get. Having said that, it will point out any serious flaws with your connection - if it's massively lower than it should be, go complain to Tiscali! (Although to be honest, I find it's better to stop talking to brick walls and just ask for your MAC code so you can move elsewhere. It's just more productive...)

If you've got 3.5mb/s broadband, you should be getting way more than 35kb/s on average. I get nearly twice that through my 1.5mb/s BT connection and a dodgy wireless router.

There's loads of little things it could be, but I'd honestly move on. You really will get annoyed with them after a while.

Cheers for the advice there guys, I'll have a word with my parents later. :)

I have to agree with G.T, Tiscali are not very good in certain areas. In some areas they're great, in others they're rubbish. Same goes for Pipex Homecall, however Pipex isn't bad but Pipex (it is different to Pipex homecall) isn't that cheap either. The best BB you can get is cable if it's available in your area. Have you checked what speed BB your house can recieve through your phone line yet?

You must put in your telephone number to get an accurate figure for your line.
