So today I was connecting my PS3 to a new router and when I did the connection test, it said my download speed is 5.6 mbps and my upload speed is 3.2 mbps.

I have heard people talking about these speeds before, and since I have very little knowledge about computers, I was wondering if these speeds are good or bad. Any advice would be great.

Not amazing but more than good enough for online gaming, certainly the upload. That speed rating is notoriously innacurate though. Well, it'll never tell you it's faster than it really is but I never see my full 60Mbps there.

Ok. Thank you.

I've done 2 types of connection test and they give very different results to each other, if those figures are correct then your download speed is quite slow by todays standards but your upload speed is quite quick.

No way of knowing if it's god numbers without knowing what type of connection or who your provider is. The provider is who to ask if it's as expected.

For DSL, the download is expected and the upload is phenomenal. For most cable systems, the download sux, but some cable companies offer and economy connection which might be throttled along those lines.

Well, in GT5, it's not really speed ( have seen 30Mbp guys lag worse than 3Mbp on download), It's more consistency.

Online gaming generally doesn't cause enough traffic to give you any sort of trouble whatsover with these numbers. What's more important is the ping you're getting, the amount of time the communication between your console and the server is delayed by.
