drag race viper setup

alright. anyone have a killer tune for their srt-10 viper? right now mine runs
fast, but it isn't very consistent. the shift points better be on by under 40-50 rpms, or your times will seriously suffer.:ill:

i will post my times and setups in the next post for ya. this car is veeeeeery fun to drive, and is one of my personal favorites and fastest. it is black viper with black wheels, and it hauls like nobodies buissness. i have hit over 290mph on the top end with the factory transmission, without doing a wheelie. thats fun.

heres my times, can you beat 'em, and if you can, can you give me some pointers?

i will post times and speeds, and tune in a minute. lemmie jump on my playstation real quick.:)

this car just keeps getting faster. i just ran my quickest ever time!!!

this is my drive. i launch on full throttle and nitrous, and keep it that way the whole run. I am buzzing through the traps just below the rev limiter. sadly there is no power up there:ouch: i take first gear up too exactly 6880 rpm. all of the other shifts are at 6465-6490 rpm.

i have not had time to fully dial in the suspension, because i have a lot of work to do on my nitro rustler, but this is a great starting place. race susp. package needed*

7.8 7.2
90 95
5 5
8 8
1.0 0.0
1 1

my traction control is at 7, but i have 0 on my stability control.

i have every other available part. so that means race N/A tune stage 3, full lightened stage 3, super soft tires in the back. super hard in the front. nitrous cranked all the way up, and the limites slip set at 60, 60, 20

wieght is at 185, 50

race flywheel, triple plate clutch, carbon drive shaft. with the stock transmission!!!!!

believe it or not. i have run 8.36 with the ratios setup like a turbo 400 trans, but this is just much quicker.

my current record is 8.315@ 178 mph. i will keep posting updates as i get faster. if your tune is quicker, or more consistent, post it up. i wanna try it.

Well, I crack off 8.60s in a RUF BTR, with no aids, 8.90s with a nitrous free (TCS at 1) Lotus Esprit (The TCS can handle the slight flicker on the throttle on launch A LOT quicker than me, but the car itself does not kill the tires.)

So a 7-second Viper seems plausible.

i think you will find as i did, that unless it's a top speed challenge, the viper rt/10 is faster at n/a level 2 then 3. it handles that much power very well with no tcs. if you are using tcs then you're just wasting power and most likely aren't geared right. try retuning my venom viper listed in the phoenix speed delivery garage. the competition coupe would be a contender as well, with it's shorter wheel base, it would probably bite harder off the line.

a sooooft suspension with a high cg will help alot, my stock suspension camaro is faster then my mod car cause the rears bite off the line. also keep your rear sways higher then 1 and use less spring, this facilitates front to rear weight transfer but keeps the car lateraly stable which ought to make your launch more consistant. very soft on rear shocks and very stiff on the fronts, makes the weight stick to back of the car longer, as in the nose won't dive as far on the shifts but the rear will stay low and heavy. also tcs is probably killing your times, less power with less tcs will be just as fast and just as easy to launch.

*yawns because it's old news and has been drag tuning since GT2*

Actually, what I find, is that a high and mighty setup with soft springs, stiff rebound on the rear shocks, medium bound on the rears (4-6), soft front shocks, (1/1) no camber, no toe, 1/7 rear stabilizers. Ride height should be taller in the front than the rear. Run as much gear as possible before wheelspin occurs, unless at insane power, then launch it easy, and nail it in second.

Why the hell would we want to retune your Viper? Because nothing will remain of the settings for a road course car when done up as a drag car.

Oh, and try not to steal names from real life companies. Venom=Hennessey=Copyright infringement, most likely.

To see a drag tune in action, hit my sig link up and go to post 8, I think, for my GNX tune. Sure, it only does 10s, but it makes good use of the power.

On the 'Maro: My R2'd, 400 hp Camaro does mid 12s without a hint of wheelspin. And a road race suspension.

that was quite nearly a bash from a kid who just posted about giving and getting respect in my own personal thread. how bout cause it's info from a person that worked at dragway 42 in west salem ohio for 3 yrs, who races there in his real life collectors car? i was lending a hand, get a life rotary junkie. the reason for retuning mine is that my gearing is very good, and it's easier to say retune my suspension, vs going to paste and copy my gears and setup minus just the suspension.

Whatever you say.

I can get the gearing perfect, trust me. Traditionally, due to good gear spacing and a little basic physics, I run [2.32/1.69/1.29/1.00/.622/.8] gears with a low (numerically high) rear gear ratio. Why that and not a stiff rear gear and low trans gears? Well, which is going to be easier on the transmission, differential, and driveshaft? I'll let you answer, drag racing genius.

I do agree with most of your advice. The higher CG translates into a further forward instant center, (We can't adjust IC in GT) hence shifting more weight onto the rears on launch, the rear stabilizer would prevent the chassis "rolling" onto the right rear on launch due to the rear axle being torqued by the driveshaft, (The tall trans/low rear helps alleviate this, the trans isn't throwing as much torque out, and the rear diff wants to spin more freely in the first place) but there is where it ends.

You don't want soft rear shocks. You want them to not want to come back up quick, true, but soft rear shocks will release quicker. Soft front shocks will come up easier, releasing the nose.

And, Rockit, with a proper tune, the Viper will do better with full power. If the car stops and turns to *almost* match the power, it will make use of it well.

Wasting it with wheelspin does nothing. Ever. 1000hp means wheelspin. *Strangely, my Esprit seems to hook very well for 900hp* Therefore, a more useable amount of power would work better. 700hp is more useable than 1000.

Guess what? I guess I was wasting my breath on the speech about respect. Show someone a modicum of respect, you may get shown it.

Again, why should someone show you respect when you yourself show NO ONE respect? Hmm..

okay, you two, cut it off. if you want to keep this sandbox fight going on, do it on PM's. Rockit has already his hands full of problems thanks to his thread that got a bad start. And both of you.. try to act as guys of your age should. just my 2 cents.
