So anyone pick this up yet? It came out today in the North American market and leave it to EA to release a game full of bugs. Also leave it to them to massively change around a successful gameplay formula making a lot of gamers pretty unhappy.

The story seems pretty good so far but I hate how they "fixed" the combat system. It's now an action based fighting system (using the right click of all things) instead of the click-to-fight system there was before that most RPG's use. The camera also likes to float around without any real sense of direction which really sucks when you are fighting Orge's or something else epic.

I'm kind of on the fence with the game right now and it's going to require quite a bit more gameplay for me to really figure out whether I like it or not. I want to give it a chance since I really liked the first game and kind of want to know what happens. I hate that EA bought BioWare, their games have gone nothing but down hill since the acquisition.

I was turned of by the demo(PS3). However, I did ignore the first game until the Ultimate addition came out. I liked it even though it was boring in some parts and too linear... Did you get it for PC?

So many RPGs coming this year but none play like the first Dragon age.

Ya I get pretty much all of my games for the PC, I can't imagine how a game like this would play on a console...I would imagine awful. Every RPG I've played on the console outside Mass Effect sucked because there simply aren't enough keys on the controller to bind to spells and buffs.

I've been hammering through The Witcher for the last week, trying to finish it before DA2 (unsuccessfully as that game is stupidly long). I haven't read too many reviews for DA2, as I don't want to spoil myself. But the general feeling seems to be the story and narrative seem pretty decent, but it has some game play issues? Also some bugs, how serious are we talking?

Am I correct in saying that you can still pause the PC version too during Combat? DX11 also for PC?

On a slight tangent, I wonder how well these types of RPGs have ever sold on consoles? While I understand the 'consolification' of genres like platformers and FPS's as they sell and market really well. But to my knowledge, no thirdperson RPGs sell that well on consoles, possibly outside of Final Fantasy. The Witcher 2 is being developed with solely PC in mind and then see how they go for a console port, can't help but think DA2 should have gone the same way.

Mostly graphical glitches is what I'm seeing, although there are reports that the game is crashing on a lot of people...I just think their PC's suck though.

It does support DX11 and it pauses before combat but I don't think you can during combat, at least I haven't seen how but I haven't looked all that hard. I thought I saw something on the Steam forums about people complaining they couldn't pause. I'll check tonight though.

I played the playstation demo of this, it was pretty cool. Not sure if i'd want to part my cash for it though, id probably get the PC version if i did as its cheaper.

Nope, PC version is still $59.99. I guess that's the new thing with PC games now...gouging the consumer :indiff:.

Cheapest i've seen it for PS3 is £36 and on steam at the moment its £29.99. Small difference, but its still cheaper!

Damn, looks like the EU version still has correct price points.

They've caved to the whining 3 year olds going "WAAAH THIS IS TOO HARD!! HOLD MY HAND THE WHOLE WAY PLEASE, MAKE THE GAME EASY FOR ME!"

Long story short, I'm really glad I just rented it, it's already gone back.. Total waste of time.

As anyone tried the High-Res Texture Pack?

I'm trying that out tonight. The graphics aren't optimised very well so maybe this will help?

The game is getting better but it's not like the first one sadly. I hate that you can't change the armour on your companions. But it's great for generating some coin since I have to sell almost everything I find.

Oh and Casio you can pause during combat.

I can't say I'm liking this game very much. I have ZERO clue as to what the actual story is, haven't played the first game but was told it shouldn't make much difference. The fighting is pretty much just button mashing. I'm still playing in hope something changes but just looked at some user reviews and it doesn't look like it will.

Ya you need to have played the first one otherwise it won't make a whole lot of sense. Basically the Blight happened and these demon things kicked the world's ass. Now they are trying to rebuild it. That's a really boiled down version without giving away spoilers.

High-res texture patch + 1920x1080 + mild AA and AF (2x each) + DX11 + 5770 Crossfire = rather bum framerates - I know Bioware recommends at least 1GB of VRAM, but a single 5770 has that anyway :grumpy: Not using AA or AF helps a bit, but not much.

Playing as a mage for this first playthrough. Mage seems fun so far.

Fast forward three days and I've completed the game  Took me exactly 37 hours including most sidequests, but bear in mind I was playing on Casual (I play games for the fun of it, not for a challenge) so you can probably double that for Nightmare.

Finished up at level 22 with 62 magic and 30 willpower. 92 DPS and 1127 attack :D

Going through now. Not sure how many hours(Does it say somewhere?). It's a pretty decent game, but to be honest, I think I was drawn more to the characters and quests more in the first one, as you got a sense you're battling against a greater power. Whereas this one you just seem (at this stage) to be doing random tasks to get money to go on an expedition.

Also, they are releasing a patch for Nvidia based cards. I'm running High Graphics (With texture pack), 1920x1080 4xAA and 8xAA perfectly fine. As soon as I go Very High it kills it, I realise it's only tessellation so it's not that big a deal, but it'll still be nice if it's fixed.

Ok I'm 15 hours in and I'm pretty polarised on this game.

On one hand, I think the dialog and the characters are very well designed and voiced. The pacing of the game is good, and so far, I've never been left with nothing to do. Also some battles are still hard enough that things like pausing and tactics come into play, which I like.

On the other hand, the decision making and conversation system is ********, don't give me the illusion that I have a choice when a lot of the times I don't. While yes, some decisions you make impact the game, a lot of them seem to have no meaning. For example, some woman told me she wanted me to kill person X, I'm like "Nah, **** you, I'm not getting involved", and then she says some **** and all of a sudden I'm doing that quest. It's not a one off, it's all the time. I've even reloaded saves and a couple of conversations they try to make seem 'game-defining' there is only one option regardless of what you say.

Also the reputation system you have with your characters is kinda broken too. So far it's had no effect on anything except for a few different dialogue questions, and a couple of passive abilities.

The reusing of areas with the exact same design and topology and pretending they are different places is just amateur, it makes me wonder if Bioware could not make extra maps/areas because of console space restraints. Which in my opinion is a huge loss.

I think the consolification of this game has in my book, knocked it down a few notches, it's still a quality game but so far I don't think it is as good as Dragon Age: Origins. I'll probably go back and redo that once I beat DA2. And by then it'll almost be time for Witcher 2 which if it's even half as good as The Witcher will leave DA2 for dust.

Finally finished it, took about 30 hours to get through it which is half that of Dragon Age: Origins. I was a little disappointed with that. I think I did everything too as I had no remaining quests upon the completion of the game. It seems like I'm missing some achievements though so I'll probably play through it again in a few weeks with a mage or something.

I do hope they release an expansion for the game like they did with Awaking and I really hope Bioware gets moving on Dragon Age 3.

1st dlc bound for end of july!! Finally we can go back & continue venturing the Dragon Age 2 universe! :D
