Dream Car Championship – Amateur
I did a quick preview of the race, to see what cars I would face. Mostly LM cars, so I’m going to try it out in my Altezza LM car. It was standard issue except for the stage 1 turbo I had added, along with Medium-slick tires. Past experience showed the medium-slicks work very nicely for a five lap race.

Deep Forest Raceway
Settings: bottom out the suspension, set Auto gears at 31, ASM = 3; TCS = 1. Other than that, all settings are the same as originally issued.

ZZII: + 22.344
FTO LM: + 26.835
Altezza LM: + 32.681
S2000 LM: + 32.815
RX-7 LM: + 33.703

Best lap: 1’10.999
Total time: 6’07.775

I didn’t claim the lead until the last corner on the first lap. I was expecting a serious race, as the competition was fairly well matched. However, in the third lap, the S2000 and the Altezza both pitted. On the following lap the RX-7 pitted. Looks like I’ll remove the stage 1 for the next race.

Laguna Seca Raceway
I removed the Stage 1 turbo. I thought of changing the gearing to a lower level than 31, but this gear setting matches really well to this track.

FTO LM: + 24.764
RX-7 LM: + 24.961
ZZII: + 25.207
S2000 LM: + 25.407
Altezza LM: + 25.732

Best lap: 1’19.456
Total time: 6’49.756

The S2000 and the Altezza both pitted on lap 4. Which dropped them to the last two spots, from first and second place.

Special Stage Route 5
ZZII: + 17.883
FTO LM: + 20.198
Altezza LM: + 27.459
RX-7 LM: + 31.143
S2000 LM: + 32.847

Best lap: 1’21.387
Total time: 7’00.768

I gained the lead 3/4’s the way through the third lap. The Altezza was giving me a run for the money, until it pitted on the third lap. The S2000 and RX-7 both pitted on lap 4.

Apricot Hill Raceway
S2000 LM: + 18.430
RX-7 LM: + 20.120
ZZII: + 20.188
Altezza LM: + 21.504
FTO LM: + 25.857

Best lap: 1’17.880
Total time: 6’43.568

It was a nail biter of a race, until the third lap. At this point, I had been fighting for 4th place. My tires warmed up, I hit my rhythm and the S2000, RX-7 and Altezza all pitted.

Test Course
Knowing the extent of this track, I reinstalled the Turbo, boosted the Auto setting to 35 and minimized down force. It’s a good thing I did, the FTO was all over me. It even managed to take first place from me on the fourth lap. I was forced to draft him, to pass back into the lead.

FTO LM: + 0.654
S2000 LM: + 13.711
Altezza LM: + 22.128
ZZII: + 22.200
RX-7 LM: + 22.331

Best lap: 1’53.156
Total time: 9’36.357

This race was won on my ability to keep the FTO from drafting me. I was forced to ride the inside of the track, to keep in the lead. On the first corner in the 4th lap, I rode the high side of the corner. The FTO was able to draft me, and jump into the lead for a few moments. I should have set the Auto Gearing a click or two higher

Special Stage Route 11
I’m far enough in the lead to sweep the series. In addition to purchasing as few cars as possible, I have also been trying to keep my win ratio as high as possible. It was also at this point that my HP started to drop, due to oil wear (605 HP). I didn’t change the oil previously, so adding in the mileage from the Altezza series – Amateur (65.470), I have run it 171.506 +/- miles.

ZZII: + 18.104
FTO LM: + 22.053
S2000 LM: + 22.167
Altezza LM: + 28.853
RX-7 LM: + 30.232

Best lap: 1’54.004
Total time: 9’51.558

Altezza and S2000 Pitted on the third lap, dropping them to last place. At this point I had worked up from a bad pass through the final chicane (just before the sweeping right hander onto the start/finish straight) on the second lap, which had dropped me 5 seconds back from the leader, to slightly more than 1 second off the RX-7’s pace. As I followed him through the course, looking for a place to pass, I noticed him understeering through many of the corners. I surmised that his tires had worn quite hard. I was proven correct, when he pitted at the end of the lap. Thereby eliminating any competition I had been encountering.

Grand Valley Speedway II
My HP was down to 595hp when I started this race.

FTO LM: + 25.500
ZZII: + 29.381
S2000 LM: + 49.974
RX-7 LM: + 53.090
Altezza LM: + 1’13.350

Best lap: 1’49.782
Total time: 13’20.569

Most of my laps were in the 1’53 range, as I was monitoring my tire wear, in consideration of the 7 laps I had to run. A very easy race, even considering I was severely under powered. I saw no evidence of the AI cheating. I’m wondering if it might have something to do with the AI having to pit on this race.

My oil light lit up on lap 4. First time, since I started the game. :(

The Altezza pitted on lap 2, 4 and 6. The S2000 pitted on lap 2 and 5. The RX-7 Pitted on lap 3 and 6.

series results
ME: 70 points
FTO LM: 31 pts.
ZZII: 30 pts.
S2000: 21 pts.
RX-7 LM: 15 pts.
Altezza LM: + 15 pts. (That’s gotta hurt. He ran the same car I did.)

By this time my HP had dropped to 585hp. After the oil change it was back up to 614hp.
I rack up 25,000cr per race (total of 175,000cr), plus 150,000cr for the series sweep.

I won the S2000 LM race car (Black and Red). I also won the Team Oreca Dodge Viper for clearing Amateur Level. And the credits roll again…

Interestingly, I counted the car modeling team…12 people. Course modeling team was 14 people.

I haven't run this series, but maybe I'll give it a shot. I have a ZZII and a Camaro racer that are probably up to it, but no LM cars.

Do all of the Amateur races include tire wear? I ran the Japan, American and DTC series a week or so ago, and I don't recall noticing it. But when I ran the MR Cup on Saturday, it did include tire wear. Which brings me to the point:

The AI pit strategy on the 5-lappers ANNOYS THE HELL OUT OF ME. Nothing I hate more than to run a nice competitve race, only to have the competition throw it away on the next-to-last lap by pitting. In the three MR races I had the pole by a very narrow margin, or in fact started 2nd or 3rd in the grid. Yet I won all 3 races by 5-6 seconds because the close competition all pitted after lap 4, leaving the back markers to follow me around the track at a distance.

Where's the fun in that?

doing this series now in a stock vertigo... they seem to have heaps of hp on me and the races are pretty close.
but i dont pit and therefore have an advantage to counteract thier HP advantage... on race 6 atm. 1 second place one 5th (test course, i forgot to change settings and couldnt get a high enough speed) and the rest 1st places...

very interesting series :)
cant wait to see what car i get

I also noticed that in the Pro races they will pit at lap 8 or 9???? I had resigned myself to 2nd as I could catch an NSX. Well he pitted on that lap and I cruised to victory???

eek!!! i just found out the the car i am driving (vertigo) has about 420 hp.... 150 less than the lm cars!!!

I haven't driven the Vertigo, and I don't want to seem like I'm belittling your win, but the Vertigo is one of the lightest cars in GT3. So your weight-to-power ratio is probably in the same ballpark as the bigger LMs.

i keep forgetting about weight! :P
hehe!
yeah it is very even i guess.
they still sweep past me onm the straights tho, i have to get them in the corners :)

mmm.... corners :P
