Dream Theater´s 8th full lenght studio album is coming out on June 7th, but some songs are already playing on the radio and can be easily found on the web.

I have listened to "These Walls" and "Panic Attack" so far. I liked them both, but they´re edited versions and could change a bit until Octavarium´s release.

These Walls sounds like it could be the "catchy" one from the album, possibly the first single. Panic Attack is more of a heavy song, it starts with a cool bass riff and it´s fast paced all the way. Petrucci´s guitar is sounding really heavy too.

So, anyone else here pretends to get this album?

Well this album is easily one of the best albums this year. I'm sure Taurine will agree. 👍

This was my first taste of DT, but this album left me wanting more. MUCH more! It's simply amazing.

After this album rocked my socks, I obtained Train of Thought and Liquid Tension Experiment. Not as good as Octavarium, IMO, but still worthy enough to go on my iRiver.

if I can find someone to take my extra ticket, I'll be seeing Dream Theater and 8 or 9 other bands on September 3, 2005 :D

I'll go with ya if you fly me out there! :D

Octavarium is a good album, but I prefer their "longer" style of old. Dream Theater are an amazing band though, easily my favorite. 👍

Event: I recommend you check out the "Images and Words" album, some great stuff there. As for individual songs, I recommend "A Change of Seasons", "The Glass Prison", and "Home" to name a few. :)

It's good, but Train of Thought is still their best album IMO.
I don´t like ToT that much. My favorite DT albums are Images And Words and Metropolis pt.2: Scenes From A Memory. The Metropolis 2000 DVD is awesome too.

There is a lot of more "catchy" songs on this album. Don't get me wrong, it's a great album. There's a lot of different obvious influences for the songs. "I Walk Beside You" sounds extremely U2, and "Never Enough" is very comparable to some Muse. It's great though.

I'm reviving this thread to share a very interesting find I made today. It's very similar to what was posted about Tool's "Lateraulus" album. This page explains everything about the Octavarium album, and how complex the whole theme really is. It really allows you to think about how much effort was put into this album. It's a long read, but well worth it if you're a Dream Theater fan. Enjoy.

In "The Answers Lies Within" analysis it mentions the unexplained pitch bend at the end of "The Great Gig in the Sky" from Dark Side of the Moon by Pink Floyd. To my memory that was due to the tape on the original mix speeding up then slowing down accidentally. On the most recent DSotM release it's been put right.

I ought to try this band out. I think one of their guitarist played with Steve Vai and Joe Satriani on a G3 tour last year or the year before. Don't remember the name (John Petrucci I think). But if he can play alongside those two then that's pretty impressive.
