Dream Theater's first studio release since 2005's Octavarium has been announced for a June 5 release. The new album, Systematic Chaos, will be released in two formats: The regular CD, and the Special Edition CD And DVD which has the album mixed in 5.1 Surround, as well as a 90 minute documentary detailing the production of the album. Fans of Dream Theater's "epics" A Change of Seasons, Six Degrees of Inner Turbulence, and Octavarium will enjoy that this album has one as well. The song is split into two tracks, opening and closing the album and is 25 minutes combined. Of course quality is better than quantity, but the three songs I mentioned earlier are masterpieces in their own right and I feel longer songs have the best climax (musically, mind you). I'm excited about this album because I discovered Dream Theater shortly after Octavarium was released, and thus haven't anticipated a new DT album before (Score was released in 2006, but it is a live album so it's not really new material). Here are the Album Covers for the two versions of the album:

Regular

Special

Drummer Mike Portnoy has stated in an interview that the album is "Heavy and technical, powerful and dynamic — all of the elements that people kind of expect out of a Dream Theater album. All of the styles and sounds are intact, but we wanted to make it a real sonic explosion. It's very dramatic and aggressive."

Track Listing:

1. In The Presence of Enemies Pt.1 (9:00)
2. Forsaken (5:36)
3. Constant Motion (6:55)
4. The Dark Eternal Night (8:51)
5. Repentance (10:43)
6. Prophets Of War (6:01)
7. The Ministry of Lost Souls (14:57)
8. In The Presence of Enemies Pt.2 (16:38)

A music video for the song "Constant Motion" is currently being made, their first video since the "Falling Into Infinity" era, about 10 years ago.

Also, I think it would be nice to share your opinions on Dream Theater in general in this thread, and of course any more information about this album you may come across.

Theater are very disappointing the last years...people say that Octavarium sucks (I haven't listened to it though), and their last great work was 'Metropolis Pt. 2: Scenes from a Memory'. That's bad because they are the only 'big' progressive band in our days. I hope this album is by the real Dream Theater, because I love them as a band. :nervous: :)

I liked OVM and it has one of my favorite songs, but it definitely wasn't their best album. I'm looking forward to this one and will probably wind up buying the dvd version.

The greatest band out there. I love these guys, I flew to Toronto to see them last year. They put on a great show. John Petrucci held a free guitar clinic the night before the concert as well, what an absolutely amazing player.

There's 2 songs there, Constant Motion which most of you have heard by now, and also The Dark Eternal Night. There's a promo video for the new album as well. Check it out.👍
