I searched around a bit about this and I didn't find anything. I also don't know if this belongs in the Drifting section or not, since it is somewhat (if not fully) related to it.

What strategies are there for defeating AI opponents with a drift configuration? (Without the use of any Driving Aids whatsoever)

I don't think that there is none, it depends on your skill. Racing drifting is the only thing that I can think of right now.

Yup VR7, you need some different approach from normal racing.

First time I tried it, it was in the Spiders and Roadsters champ (beginners). To tell the truth, it was very difficult, at first.

Try to keep your angle at minimum, like karate_crimson said, and use smart lines for passing. Also, having a car that doesn't bump and jump at every slide is a good thing for winning.

A no-snapback (almost) setting is also greatly welcome, so that you can push very hard coming out of corners.

like karate_crimson said try to keep angle low and take lighter car for quick line change, this help me a lot to overtake the other car during corner.

AMEN. it is so much harder when you can't just gun it out of a corner because you are afraid of snapback. had many an AI car pass me cause i was easy on the throttle.

Do tire types also play a factor? I normally use N2 tires, but I tried experimenting with S2 tires and won (or at least managed to keep up in) several races that I couldn't with standard tires.

Tires play a very important factor, of course. But if you are for drifting racing, N2 should be your very first choice. I mean, if I want to drift-race with my 330hp Honda S2000, I just can't put on S2 tires. The S will just won't drift appropriately.
