back on topic...
I'm 100% in favour of this idea. I think a team of settings reviewers numbering 5 or so would be appropriate. But we'd have to get a team demonstrating a vast array of tuning styles, drifting styles, and controllers. DFP settings do look just a bit different than DS2 settings to compensate for the pro's and cons of each controller. I dont care to debate that point in this thread though.

Now, I won't say that DR and I have identical tastes in car settings, but from another endeavour we're working on at IDM it looks like our setups are pretty similar. Having the two of us as sole reviewers may not give a great perspective on varying ways to set a car.

We'd also have to look at ways of determing what our specimen car will be.
1. Do we accept PM's for a given timeframe and put the most popular ones to a poll, and then do the winning car?
2. Do we open a suggestion thread every x-amount of time so members can see what other people have suggested so they can second an idea if they like it?
3. Do we take requested settings from the Drift Settings Depot?
4. Or do the reviewers just decide on their own, amongst themselves?

The first idea would likely be time consuming and troublesome to setup. You also have to hope for a decent amount of nominations and good voter turnout.
The second option is a good balance, and I personally think it's the best one I've presented. But it still relies on people putting in nominations.
The third idea would make my life in the settings depot easier :sly: , but it only answers the plea of one member in particular (and odds are that the member has long since left GTP). This is not a good option... just forget it's even here.
The fourth idea totally keeps outsider input from entering the equation, so it may not be very helpful to forum members. But may be the easiest to pull off provided that the reviewers can come to consensus quickly.

Just the ramblings of a procrastinating engineering student who should be studying for his stress analysis quiz.
please add your thoughts.

edit - or, do we scrap the reviewing team idea and just make a thread for everyone to openly discuss and post settings and handling quirks of a topic car? ...we still need a way to determine what that car should be though.

so I take from the silence that there is no interest in this then???

Well......I dunno:scared: I like it, but I do realise that my favors have gone away. I dont really need THAT good drift settings. I just set it up, and then dont notice if I gotta change something or not. I generally dont care 'bout that too much now:scared:

I do think it could be pretty cool for other members though. But that means I dont really have a say in this:indiff:

I like the idea quite a bit... I've just been busy installing my new LSD, and going to work... When I have more time to play GT4, I would be more than happy to be involved with something like this...

ok, how about using GT4 though? :D
you know, just so we're all on the same page

Ooops... Why did I put GT3?...

Of course, I meant, GT4...

Just thought I'd say that I see now what all the fuss was about.. this car is so immensely much better than the coupe I was struggling with... I don't know if this is off-topic or not, but I thought I'd share anyway (I think it's kinda related to the OP ;) )

I have a couple of comments:

  • The flywheel doesn't seem to make much difference.
  • The stock differential on this sedan is incredible, and it works perfectly!
  • I just lowered it slightly and did my mandatory "typical FR suspension setup" before testing, and it was smooth as silk from the start.
Here's what I did:
  • Added triple clutch and custom tranny (not really necessary, the stock tranny shifts even smoother)
  • Added racing exhaust, balancing and polish (again, not necessary) @ around 320 HP (I think)
  • Added racing suspension (though the stock one is quite driftable, the feedback response was smoother with racing suspension making links easier)
  • Bought N1 tires
  • Springs: 10F 8R
  • Dampers: 8/8F 3/5R
  • Stabilizers: 3F 2R
Seriously - I did not find one thing that I wanted to fix with this car, and it's almost as good 100% stock too... but I'll see if I can make it do huge angles just as effortlessly. This car just laughed at stuff that normally requires a bit of focus:

... So I got another chance to play with my capture card :D

Good stuff... Could use some smoothing out for sure, but your technique is more or less sound... I can't say I agree that the sedan is better than the coupe though... The coupe drifts a treat stock... I've never had any problems with it...

Keep up the good work, mate...

Thanks :sly: I've only been drifting for a couple of months or so, so I still have loads to learn.. things got a lot easier when I finally hooked up my DF a little while ago lol... I used to drift with the d-pad and that wasn't pretty.

Btw: feel free to leave some comments in my vid thread ... Advice from the pros is priceless for a noob like me ;)

BTW, if you ever need a second test subject for your project, check out the old camaro ss.. it's quite 👍 stock.
