Drift Setups = Noob?

All I see around this forum these days is "I can't drift that car like you do I need that setup!!". Honestly is it really that hard to drift a car? I can hop in any FR car and most MR cars and drift almost immediately (assuming it has higher than 100BHP) and after a couple of laps I can link drift it with ease! All I can see is that people are relying too much on the car rather than their skills :yuck:

If someone could be so kind, why is there such insanity in getting drift setups?
 
Because people use different Tyres which means others go faster etc. so people will be on comfort hard and others sports hard..''Oh you're going so much faster can you help me''.. So they go crazy asking if you can give them a good setup or even set the car up for them.

You find a car you can drift then thats you. obviously others will be better! I personally Drift a Chrome Ferrari 599 on Comfort Hard Tyres. It's a dream :P

I just think the main problem is people pay too much attention to others rather than what they are doing!. 1 thing that really annoys me is people begging you to send a car to them because they only have a Veyron! it's unreal!
 
I'd say it stems from GT4, where you did need a setup to have a decent shot at drifting. Since it was "the Real Driving Simulator," some people are now convinced that a car (even a real one) simply cannot drift without suspension mods and hours of tweaking.

There are people who can drift stock cars in GT4, too, but the way the game modelled oversteer was still baffling. Ridge Racer lets you drift, but that doesn't mean it's realistic about it.
 
To use the age old cliche from grassroots motorsports, the biggest thing you can do to improve your driving is change the nut behind the wheel. Nothing will improve drifting better, both in real life and GT5, than practicing. I think people jump into a car, spin on the first corner they attempt and give up, blame it on the car and come here asking for settings. If they just stuck at it for a few laps I'm sure their problems would be fixed.
 
Why would you want to be faster when drifting, i don't get that. The beauty lies in finding a speed that suits your car and getting it as slow as possible with the biggest angle possible and nicest line.

this way, the second racer in a tandem can keep up and close by.👍

As I have learnt from experience, to match another car's speed, angle and line through a corner to tandem, your cars need to be vaguely matched. As you should know, every car handles differently. I have matched other member's setups from my team before, in order to improve our tandems, and it's very effective.

Interesting. :)

I need to tune some more then it seems.
Now i just make sure my ballance on the brakes is perfect for slowing down the drift if i come too close. But that is as a follower and not leader, plus if the leader is faster i can forget about coming closer.

Matched setups is the way forward! 👍

Setups make it easier to drift. Aside that that the usual setup are 300hp or a bit more.

Why? Because my setup vehicle will drift much better than a non setup one. My S15 had a horrible tune on it: it snapped back on me mid-croner and didn't really get good angles. I tuned it correctly, and now I can slide all over. I too can drift with any base car, but it becomes much more controllable with a setup.

Not necessarily..Thyat is only how the points system works. Fast drifts produce a lot of smoke and harder to control, therefore being more exciting! 👍
