How would you guys like this? Drifting as fast as you can against the time. No matter how big the angle is, you need to countersteer. Many people never heard of this, but I was at a drift meeting and they were drifting a whole track against the time! I think this could be cool, or not.. :nervous:

With a FR drifting verry fast could be tricky, becaus you have less control over the car, AWD drifting is quite easy with high speeds becaus you can exit the drift real easy.

Let me hear how you guys think of it.. 👍

not a new idea - a former drift forum personality (now banned) used to bring up drift lap times in every second post he made... it wasn't a well recieved idea then... but who knows...

it's not a new or unheard of style, just an unpopular one - it's referred to on the forum as speed drifting or race drifting. There is a full section of the GTPDC/GTPC rules dedicated to competition with this form of drifting.

I suggest that if anyone is interested in competing this way that you arrange it as a GTPC and make use of the existing scoring and judging system.

I'd try this ;)

I sort of miss a race drift GTP(D)C... I don't really feel I can or should compete in exhibition style yet, but I'm pretty confident when it comes to drifting fast and controlled. I really miss something in between too (which is where I'm at right now).. but since i can't really come up with a better system I won't elaborate yet ;)

I don't see a lot of people hyping this up around here though... so the response may be limited indeed.

You can pull extremly fast drifts with D1 cars, and isn't very difficult.

Neocrox, your subtitle name reminds me someting....

Yeh, the S15 does that..

And the subtitle name, why are you doing like that? As you are the only one that is 'allowed' to do that. And, I never saw you posting so.. Or I overlooked, but really, I'm addicted to drifting..

well when I drift I like to do it as fast as I can, while meeping an angle that looks good on the replay. I've made a time of something like 1:37 on trial mountin while drifting.

I posted a solid Speed drift lap time in Time Attack on Trial Mountain in the Stock RX-7 R Bathurst R with N1's and 347hp 2494lbs. I was sideways in every turn and linked every turn that could be linked w/o manji. I have yet to beat that lap time grip racing with the same exact car.

here's the time listing: 01:47.562 Mazda RX-7 Type R BATHURST R '01 rsmithdrift DFP" 347 2494 MT N1/N1 FR Unverified

Ahh This Topic reminds me of a certain somone...

Yeah, you could try it out with other members, don't know how popular it would be.
I'm not sure how i feel about it myself. It's kind of defeating the purpose of drifting, (well exhibition drifting anyway)...

LOL certain someone...hehe the mr.X:p

Race drifting is pretty cool, as sheron said the D1 cars are very fast for example but got huge turbo lag most of the time. The blitz skyline is not so bad though:tup:

As I once said I cant really drift AWD anymore so I guess I cant really go into this race drifting:indiff:

Who said anything about AWD?? An RX-7 FD is RWD last time I checked.

lol, ya... but he's from the Netherlands, so let him say what he wants...

hehe :sly:
...maybe he's referring to race drifting utilizing a minimal countersteering approach somewhat similar to zero-counter AWD drifting???

dunno, he lost me too.

Don't make fun of my country..

But AWD is pretty much faster then RWD. But then again, the D1 cars are almost as fast as the AWD cars. I tried drifting the Skyline R34 and it is really fast, I go over 90degrees of angle and come back really simple, what is not possible with a D1 car..

Time attack drifting is a little 'Initial D' style. They all try to beat the fastest time on the mountains.. ;)

I dont think the drivetrain has anything to do with how fast you wants to drift turns (except ff >_>) really all you need is hard tires
here are my settings for my alpine A310
spring 6.0/5.3
height 106/106
bound 5/4
rebound 8/6
cam 2.0/1.2
toe 0/0
stab 2/1

front tires- racing soft
rear tires- racing super soft

and buy the best of everything, bringing hp to 247.

The car is great for lots of small turns, and it's really light. The tires are also just for racing. I put sports soft and medium on for angle, but I think for a RR and low hp car, it's really quick while drifting.

Thanks...I'm not stupid, I was refering to the first post where neocrox said AWD drifting would be faster. If so I cant take part of this cause I cant drift AWD.

DOESN'T ANYONE UNDERSTAND THAT?!:confused::irked:

....thanks boundary......:guilty:

Some corners can definitely be taken baster with a slight drift than a full grip. This is the style I use in GT4 but still I don't consider it to be drifting. To me it's just fast driving. :)

:) Thats possible I think. You can go full throttle through some corners with a bit of oversteer, while you should brake if you were grip racing:tup:

I think you can take corners just as fast as you could while gripping, as long as you keep the right line. If you can go full throttle into the turn with hard tires, and exit it by gradually striaghtening out without losing speed, you can go real quick.

So, some people seem to enjoy this kind of drifting. Should we do this? If so, I made up some rules:
- Every week a race
- Everyone uses the same car, but with their own settings. If not, doesn't matter really..
- We could use someone that could verify the laps, so you would need something to upload the replays to your USB stick and upload them to your PC..
- The car prolly tuned to their max, if not, it's your own choise, but you'll prolly lose time on the straight

I resign from that competition as it's just part of my driving style and I don't do it intentionally. Have fun though! 👍

you could probably just ask that people PM speeds at specific lap distances from the lap analyzer to whoever is officiating - since not everyone can record replays, or upload them with AR MAX, etc.

If you're going for total lap time this would be hard to fake.

...just some thoughts.
...i guess this would not guarantee that people are infact drifting throughout the lap...
~shrug~
