Hello

Ok after searching the forums Ive noticed alot of you don't approve of the points system and I kinda understand why. But that doesn't stop me from trying to score more points lol
I can't find the answer to my question though.

As far as drifting advice goes well no I'm not looking for setups or help controlling the car etc etc, Seems to be alot asking this on the forums but no I'm fairly skilled at keeping it sideways and like most will screw up but when putting in the effort I can consistently nail entry, kiss the apex, and skim a wall on the exit.

So I need some help understanding how we are being judged on the points system here.

Speed and angle are usually the biggest factor in any game with drifting and GT seems to be using the racing line as a factor also but there seems to be much more then that going on when it comes to receiving points. Like braking on the line in the red areas will be awarded with bigger points

The way points are handed out seems to be erratic, Like you can fly into corner 4 on Eiger at really high speed and damn near 90 degree angle and get like 300 points for it before you need to "switchback" yet other times it will decide to hand out like 1300, Both replays seem about equal in terms of speed, angle and line but what the hell does the game think was so wrong with the first drift? Most of my best score's in some individual corners were the crappiest looking drifts Ive done.

Really I could use some help understanding what it is I'm doing "wrong" even though my driving is staying consistent my points are not. Rev limiter? Tire spin? Smoke?

I'm confused to what it is I'm being judged on. Any ideas?

The point system I agree is erratic but some how there is an equation.

Things I have learned:

-System seems to measure speed based off of wheel speed, not vehicle speed. This means use short gearing and a high gear to generate wheel speed and go through the corner as slow as possible.

-System does indeed look at angle and judge appropriately. I haven't seen a flaw with the angle part of the equation.

-System uses racing line as the drift line you should follow. You are suppose to keep the nose of your car right on the racing or just touching the racing line to get better scores. This part of the system is slightly flawed because proper drifting lines are NOT always the racing line they want you to follow.

-System does NOT like front end slide. If your front tires are sliding and not gripping, the system seems to limit points given, although I have no proof of this.

That's about all I can think of right now. Hope it helps.

Hopefully, many drift related aspects will be fixed by the time the full version comes out.

1) I'd like not being forced into neutral lock. (give the padders clutch buttons)

2) Let's try for an additional D1 styled career mode, and quick battles.
- If Nascar gets its own career and races, why not drifting?

3) You cannot have a drift mode without real d1 judging.
- Get this drift trials garbage out of here.
- Drifting isn't about the points. It's about the style, speed, angle, flexibility, and
TANDEMS.

Really come on now, so many people are tired of drift trials.
It is the equivalent to gaining the high score on Galaga or Donkey Kong.
Lame Lame Lame.

Hopefully it doesn't take a GT6 release to finally get things right.

The name of the game here is playability,
Obviously, KY wants to appeal to as many as possible, and keep them coming back for more.
There is an entire drift world waiting to be tapped.
Drifting is amazingly catchy, and there is money to be made there.

Separate Padders from Wheelers. They can battle together as they always have been, but why not have separate high scores as well.

Actually it's alot of help ^^ My scores have kinda come to a standstill where I'm always staying within 1500~ range from my personal best and even when I do beat my own best it's usually by 100~ points :( I kinda need another mind helping me figure this out.

Ive been drifting GT since the first one though you don't have much choice in 1/2 but 3 and 4 I was also sliding just didn't know it was a "drift" till after gt4 came out, I was only sliding for something to do while racing the AI because they brake so early that weaker cars can keep up easily.

Anyways back on track..
It took me a while to figure out that the nose of the car should be on the racing line lol
Have been trying to keep a front wheel on it after watching a ton of replays from the top drifters I did notice they all had that in common ^^ I was always using a more drift friendly line near the line that allowed more speed/angle but after raising my best scores a few thousand putting the front tire the line I got to my current standstill and have been at this standstill for a week :(

I have also looked into wheel spin but this doesn't seem to be the result I was getting of course I was running +2 gears and hitting the rev limiter. Torque on the blitz is awesome for wheel spin in any gear at any speed but spin doesn't seem to help.

The angle thing does seem fine but it does not like a perfect dead on 90 degree for whatever reason but you may be right about the front sliding because it has zero choice but to slide when on a dead 90

Things I have noticed is rev seems to be part of the wheel spin, Not exactly wheel spin but staying in the torque band and off the limiter seems to help regardless of gear, Another thing I already mentioned is the braking in the designated area according to the racing line seems to help also.

Like I said this system is erratic, It has been on my mind for like a week trying to figure out what it want's from me and so far very few logical explanations have come to mind.

I never really thought much about the front sliding so I will try some runs attempting to eliminate some sliding in the front but this again does not make much sense because AWD can corner on throttle only with little to no counter so it would have to be sliding no? Could work for FR though so I will give it a go.

Thanks again. Anymore ideas feel free to shoot em this way because I would really like to squeeze more points out of the system even if it's just 100-200 a corner ^^

Edit:HAHA ya artica I would love some D1 style drifting but I'm trying not to get my hopes up so incase the current system stays I would like to know how to use it >< And your right lol a clutch button would be killer right now as I'm a pad user also
