Hey everyone,

yes I'm a newbe... I have been quite impressed and surprized to not only find a website dedicated to GT but also to Drifting on GT. I've been d/ling drifting vids with no idea what I'm doing and trying to imitate what I see pretty much. I have some ideas...

1. would it be possible to get a tread going with tips and tricks for beginners?

2. I noticed on the vids that the camber was extreme and the suspension hard. I've looked at the settings here and no one has that. Don't get me wrong when it comes to the setting I have no clue. I've been running around trying to imitate drifting pretty much by watching how the cars move in the vids and having equal high spring rates and lots of equal camber. Ok you can stop laughing at me now because I look like a fool.

3. what exactly is drifting, the techniques if any.

I d/led this other vid and it was of someone actually drifting on gt and I noticed this person was drifting on the whole turn (looked like the Mid-field race track turn 5) continuously. I've tried using someones settings (sorry can't remember who) and I had to get used to it but I noticed that I was doing drifting on that corner not continuously but close and I felt like it wasn't totally real because of thoughs settings. I want to get a "true to life" drift if possible. That's another reason I wanna know what drifting really is. All I know is that through anticipation and planning there is a flowing feel as the car seems to glide partally sideways at times through the turns.

btw, how do you tell how many posts or replys you have done?

:banghead: (lol, had to throw this in it's so funny)

thanks

Nick :D

i think your gonna get flamed for asking this...

but heres some techniques:

powerover- turn the wheel into the turn and floor it. your rear loses traction thus causing a slide.

curb hop- like how that FD in initial d drifts. turn, pop your wheel over the curb, the car will jump, and not have traction and cause a slide.

dirt drop- turn and drop your rear tires into the dirt. your rear tires lose traction and cause a slide.

feint drift- turn in the opposite direction of the turn then use the rebound fron that to slide your car in the right direction. you probably use this in rally more then anything.

brake drift- when you approach a sharp turn slam on the brakes and skid your tires. turn, then you should be drifting.

kansei (my personal fav)- floor the car all the way till the turn (preferably a high speed one) then get off the throttle and turn. you should lose traction and cause a slight angle drift. use the throttle and steering to induce a greater angle.

chokudori (the most fun drift)- on a long wide straight just turn into the wall, then gas it. you'll slide then countersteer until you're drifting the other way. then keep repeating if you do it right it looks really cool on the replay.

and if you're having a hard time try using the e-brake during the drift. it's a good way to fine tune your drifts.

Answer to Question #1 I can get a few talented drifters to start one up

2+3: Easy way to learn. Maxed out AE86, ASM 0 TCS 0, Super soft tires and Midfeild Raceway I, Thats the way i learn't it.

naw, i dont think he'll get 'flamed'. i didnt know what any of the terms meant until a few months ago. VipFreak check out the sticky GT3 DRIFT GUIDE. some really good info in there.

I'm talented, I'll help :D

First off to teach kids how to drift you how to teach them WHAT Drifting is..Alot of the amature kids get the misconception that in drifting you have to be completly sideways or else it's nothing..THAT IS BOLOGNA!!!..Drifting is a driving style...A Technique towards cornering...Not 1 particular move you do on the track....
As for guides i've read....I learned more from just trying out cars than I did from a guide or video's..VIDEO'S reaaally messed me up.....With people that were good taking corners at 90+ mph..I had no chance in doing that..And as for the "Sim Tires" approach..That is the WORSTE way to be introduced into drifting..You'll learn to hate it so quick as did I...The 300-400 FC3S with Sim tires and weird suspension....All it does is slide from right to left due to NO traction at all..I tried that about 5 months back..HATED IT WITH A PASSION..and never bothered drifting again..untill I realized that there was a different approach......Better quality tires with more power..

same goes for me as it did for shinez. i tried the sim tires first and hated it, but i didnt give up so easily. i wanted to drift. so i checked out some settings and noticed that some people use racing tires. usually the tires i choose depend on the car or the power of the car. its good to just play around with car settings to know wut you like the best. nothing beats practice and experience. you'll get it.

Hey Shinez, lol, you do get around... anyways, yeah I haven't tried the sim tires I know what you mean about them but I do wanna try them just because I haven't yet... It's just that I've been doing what I thought was drifting untill I saw a vid of gt drifting (gran dorismo?) and found this website and yes I know it's not just about getting totally sideways although it haven't been able to do that yet... I've been able to do a 360 :D. Anyways, I still notice even from that gt vid and real drifting vids that for one they have a lot of camber going or the wheels are slanted a lot more than on gt and well I don't know if gt is real to life but I like to think it's close because I think it's good practice for real driving in a way and I can drift on it instead of doing something stupid in my real car or worse killing myself... I say that it's good practice for driving because even though some sense are missing like feel and hearing in a way I've experienced thoughs sense when I was at the skip barber driving school so I can some what apply that to gt. That's all I can think of at the moment but that's for all your guys help.

:banghead: (through this in :D)

I thought of two things... one I remember seeing a post about like doing hybrid cars or like a mod or something?? Is there a mod where you don't open up the system? I don't mean like game shark because I've heard of that but there's some other stuff? Also, for some of the vids it looks like sometimes they just stay in the middle of the track and then I forgot the term but it's when you let off the gas and then the rear comes loose... but it seems like car just pivots from the center between the front wheels as opposed to that reves or reives (forgot that name too :D :banghead: ). Anyways, is that what they are doing using that first technique?

Nick:banghead: :D

when i first started drifting on GT3 i found sim tyres with a car with a fair bit of power hard to control

i came back to it and almost perfected sim tyre drifting:)

Have a look on the previus threads.
There are lots of threads in that new peolpe aks how to begin. And the answer is there and here and evrywhere: lot of practice. But have a look and remember to use the search button before asking. :)

ya'll forgot Trail braking;)
brake to porper cornering speed. Bring brake pressure to about 5-10% while turning hard into corner. When executed well, four wheel drift is engaged (rally style I mean).
I think that the easiest way to begin is in a four wheel drive car. Now I know some people have trouble, but changing your settings will get rid of most of your problems. To start, I think that one should try a LanEvo, with your AYC turned up.:)

Feel free to correct me, and have fun!
