Drifting Scenario Questions

Ok, I've looked up guides and etc /what not for how to drift.
And after a few days of practice, I have a couple questions. Thanks if you can answer them, and thanks if you can tell me another thread that points all these out. :)

I'M USING A WHEEL BTW

1. So which cars do you use emergency brake, and which ones do you not? Because some people do, some people don't, is it a matter of preference, or horsepower?

2. When I go into a drift, and my back just fishtails out around the middle of the turn(say, if I was turning right, the back of the car jumps out and i fishtail clockwise) what does that mean?

3. When I'm in the middle of a drift, and I just slow down and just end up running into the inner wall (as in, the wall you're facing when you drift), am I not going fast enough?

4. When I'm exiting a drift, how do i regain control to go straight? I can't seem to do it if i somehow pull of an amazing (to my eyes, since I can't drift for crap) drift, yet i am unable to regain control and i end up smashing into another wall 30 meters away from the end of the turn.

5. Also, should I be at the rev limiter before i take my foot off the pedal into the drift?

also, I didn't post car specs because I didn't think you would need them to answer these questions, but if you need them, I'll post them up and any other info you need. :) thanks~

There are many threads that can go into more detail, but one thing i can tell you is that when you have wheel spin at High RPM, and instantly let off the throttle, the rear tires regain traction very quickly, and which ever direction the Weight of the car is shifting/transferring , the rear will be thrown in that direction.

You usually want to try and reduce the rpm at a steady pace, and don't fully let off the throttle till the car and steering wheel are pointing almost straight.

You have to get a feel for it because every car is different, same techniques just applied at different times and intervals.

You can hit the rev limiter if you know you'll slow down right after it (ie while linking two corners).
If you have a stock turbo or stage 1 I don't recommend doing it as the power will droop. What you want is keeping your engine in it's power band.

Well, from my experience I use weight transfer to let it slide without the E-brake.
Like I go from Left to right, or Right to left Depending on Corner.
and the way the I straighten out my car is usually let off the gas, cause i'm always usually drifting in HIGH rpm so i let off the gas and it straightens or most of the time is straightens itself. Hope this helps.

Thanks for the advice! im actually exiting drifts now to go onto the next turn =.=;;;

but i sometimes get this problem where the back spins out too much so i end up perpendicular to the road during the drift. So i end up not actually going anywhere or i end up going backwards. Is this a throttle/wheel control problem?

Sounds like you're giving it too much gas, is it over-rotating or is it violently snapping in the other direction?

i think it's over-rotating.
For eg, When im going on a right turn, I go in for the drift, and midway through the drift the back end gives out and i fishtail clockwise (bird's eye view).
After, i stop fishtailing, i go in reverse for a few seconds, to which i have to brake or smash into a wall.

This is when you throw the car in a drift an its doesnt have enough grip so it just kinda slides. Its something that you stop overtime once you learn the car an your own drifting techniques more.

Definitely too much gas then, lightly feather the throttle.

Also, don't go for crazy entries yet, a simple power-over is the best way to start out. After you've mastered that, work on e-braking, feints, flicks, etc.

Just get to the apex of a corner, give it a little romp on the throttle and control the slide, then aspire for bigger angles the more comfortable you get.

Edit: a power-over can be difficult in lower powered cars. Something like an S13 or an RX7 FC with about 275hp should be perfect.

Oh, and this relates to comfort hard tires, mediums and softs require more advanced techniques.

Use comfort hards as they make the car feel like the tires are heavily buttered and the road will feel like greasy ice. Your Z will then start sliding by itself.

The whole "proper drift tire" is a complicated discussion, but yeah, just use some comfort hards, its what the "cool" kids do.

Ok, i tried out the comfort tires and I'm getting worse and worse.
I can't even start drifts sometimes now. Should I still stick with the comfort hard tires ?

And i randomly lose control while going straight because i hit "uneven terrain".

Should i just keep using these until i get drifting down pat?

my suggestion is to work your way up the tire pyramid. As in try comfort hards and if that doesnt work, try comfort medium, and so on and so on.
