Drifting tips?

Hey, I just got Enthusia and a DFP today. I've tried drifting but I have a lot of difficulty getting cars to get decent angle. I also tried with the DS2 and it was slightly easier because I haven't adjusted to the DFP yet. I've been doing it in Time Trials because I haven't progressed very far in Enthusia Life.

Can anyone give me some advice? Do I need to get cars in Enthu Life and tune them to drift? I've tried with the NSX, 180SX, MR2, AE86 and S15. Like I said before, the problem is getting the car sideways to begin with.

I've been able to drift in GT3, GT4, Forza and LFS S2, so I know how drifting works, but I can't get the tyres loose in Enthusia. Even with the wheel cranked and flooring the gas, the VGS shows that only one tire is losing traction.

So, any advice from people who have been saying Enthusia has good drifting?

Ummmm.. Weird. To me losing traction doesn't feel hard.

About 1 spinning tire. It's probably this that you have loosy/more open diff. For example, ae86 has very lose one(if not open).. You can change diff settings in tune options.

But anyway, you have tried s15.. Its fairly good car to drift in enthusia, even very good I would say. Try following those tips:

1) Go to airport:
a) park the car, press the clutch, turn the wheel hard left or right, then hard on the throttle, let of the clutch and make a 180 power over like this.. Make a few of them.
b) go with 60-80 km/h, turn the wheel right or left and press the handbrake at the same time, then counter steer and power over from it.
c) do some drift circles.
d) do some '8' drifts.

After you can make all of those without bigger problems, go visit some track and try to drift in real corners :)

I'm not much of a drifter, but I've read here that it's easier to drift with the DF (200º) than with the DFP (900º). Maybe you can switch the DFP to 200º mode, until you're more into the driving/drifting specifics of EPR?

One other thing is that the cars in this game are very different from one to another. I suggest you try several cars and pick one you find easier to drift with. After you masterd that one, you can proceed to others.

I couldn't have given better advice than Kamkor. btw, i'd like to see some vids of you doing some drifts and those things you explained above. Sounds like you can do some pretty fancy stuff in the game. I'd like to see what is possible with the great physics this game has.

I have no problem drifting in the game and my preferred car is the S15, in blue. Also, how is this game using the DFP with 200 degrees only? i never thought of trying it this way.

Seconded vote for vids!

Another Q: if you use an Enthu Life car to drift, should you keep the Tuning Level low or high?

I set the AE85 diff to fully locked and I still get the one-tyre problem. Hmm...

Okay, I found out how to tune in Time Trials so I tried the S15. With Level 5 tuning and fully locked diff I can get it sideways easily. Clutch kick also works a treat with the tuning (whereas before it didn't do much).

Controlling it is the next step...

Ok.... ill keep my *top secret ;) tuning suggestions to myself now that you seem to have figured it out. I could not believe I heard someone say its hard to get the back end around in enthusia, lol. I guess if you were in a stock car it might be difficult though.

Ive got a few really wicked drift vids where im practically doing one GIANT linked drift on dragon range, wish i could post it on here. Could i record it with my webcam and post it somehow? I know the quality would be crap but considering the very low number of enthusia drift vids, its better than next to nothing.

Here's my old touge drift vid, its nothing special, reasin is: on the day when i recorded vids i wanted to record as much movies of enthusia as I could with digi cam which I had borrowed for 2 days(see my movies thread) So I usually did 2-3 laps on a course with some car and recorded it. Enjoy :)

Maybe you didnt thought of it, cuz there is no point in using dfp in 200degrees in enthusia, whats the point of decreasing realism?:) Stay with 900.

I've just come back from a few hours in tuned cars and yeah, I can see why you were surprised. The S15, MR2 etc in stock form are pretty difficult to get some good angle, but once you tune them - woah.

I'm an absolute noob when it comes to drifting with a wheel so it will be a while before I have anything decent to upload, except maybe one corner here and there that I didn't screw up too badly.

KurtG, plz post something.

Kamkor, thanks for posting the vid.

btw, I've realised we have 3 S15 DFP Enthusia drifters here. I usually prefer black, but I also pick silver occasionally.

Actually I used stock S15 in the touge vid, so stock cars are good enough as well :)

c'mon guys, don't flame me. Tortus was saying he didn't have drifting experience with a wheel and I thought it could be better for him to start getting it at 200º mode (I know that in GT4 you can set the DFP to this mode, something I'm not sure can be done in EPR - I just have a DF :ouch: .

You realism fanboys! :D :D :D

Id love to post some vids. Ive got a webcam ( so yes, the quality will be cruddy) but i have no idea how to make the recorded videos available to view by folks on here.
Any help would be appreciated. 👍

By the way, i think it is helpfull to start off (when first learning to drift) with the 200 degree mode, but for god sakes dont stick with it for more than a couple runs before you turn back on 900* mode.

Thanks for the tips. I got a good (for what I can do) drift of the big curve on sector 2 on Autumn Hill, so I'll try to upload it later.

Use putfile.com or yousendit.com to upload vids. I think people prefer putfile, but I'm not sure why. I used this to upload Forza drift vids ages ago at ForzaCentral.

I'll also report on my drift progress and try to put up advice that I think will be helpful for fellow n0ob-ites. I think Autumn Hill Sector 2 is the easiest to drift by far, probably because of wider lanes or something. I use a mix of swaying and kicking the clutch to do the big corner (vid later).
