ok now that initial d FINALLY made it to our shores everybody and their mamma's are turning drifting into a trend, just like the whole JDM craze. i remember back in 1997 when i would talk about drifting and people would look at me with that wtf look :odd: "controlled oversteer?"... yeah that one

today i encounter idiots who claim they drift in their civics, integras, and other FF **** boxes.... all the low key drifting forums have been closed and i hear squeeling tires everynight before i go to sleep..... must be another civic :rolleyes:

Well, I am sort of irritated about this whole Initial D thing also. I think the media doesn't know what to censor anymore. I mean, I saw this 8 year old boy talking about how the Matrix Reloaded was good. How can he know when he's only 8?! The thing is, with the media they want to get ratings and the only way to get ratings is to do something different, like the TV Show Survivor or the movie The Fast and the Furious.

In the drifting forums here in GTPlanet.net, there has been a discussion on how Initial D will be the next Pokemon. I totally agree with this because now kids will start to say that drifting is cool without knowing what the heck it is. It's annoying to see a young child to start talking about marrying already doesn't it? This irritation is caused by all this media, and well, I guess we have to deal with it :rolleyes:

I hope that made sense :/

I dont think Initial D will be the next pokemon...its been out of production for quite some time, so I doubt theyll make any new ones...and seriously...what more could they do? HE WINS! HE WINS! HE WINS! Seriously...it gets boring after a while. The coolest episode was the one where his engine carked out...heheheh.

Klos knows. but, in an incredible irony, the dude who posted this thread also said in "stupid fart cannon" that the AE86 is the best balanced car to go on production, wich makes me doubt of the statement in this thread... but anyway, maybe drifting can be good, and difficult to achieve, and a skill in its own, but Im UP TO MY EFFIN MOTHER OF IT AND ALL THE KIDS IN HERE WITH DRIFTING NICKS WHO THINK THAT DRIFTING IS COOL.

Drifting isn't a "scene" it's a sport......As for Intial D, it's been on our shores for a while....just not in english. The english version, which I've seen ONE of is retarded and makes japan look horrible, and us look worse for watching it.
 
Well, if you look around there are already Initial D cards for the card game and the manga and anime are starting to show up because of Tokyopop's efforts to bring it here in the US. It's just really embarrassing to see 3rd graders talk about cars when they don't understand what they are talking about, you know what I mean?

Initial D IMO appeals only to car enthusiast. I dont think it'll be as big as pokemon,DBZ since they appeal to a wider audience. But you never know.

i remember when i went to pick up my lil bro at skool a week after 2f2f came out. i overherd a conversation that went something like "yeah when i grow up and get a skyline, i'm going to put a b16 vtec in it" :odd: . trends catch on quick and everybody of every age is ready to follow... haha i could go on for hours about the "stupid ricer" epidemic
 
This I must distress:

There are usually two forms of Anime -

1) Realism, with just a tad bit of fantasy (Slam Dunk, Initial D, Noir)
2) Full fantasy (Any tentacle porn, Dragon Ball Z, Pokemon)

With 1), things can get dangerous. People will have a hard time understanding what is real, be it for nerds, dorks, or a successful adult. For example... in Noir this particular female can kill people by throwing small stones. It IS possible, but chances are, it won't be very likely. Now, Initial D is as close to reality as you can get by throwing in theories and driving techniques, but what the characters have is pretty much out of anyone's range, such as a anti-lag system or a Group A engine. Not only that, they can only last for a certain amount of time, and this is important. If people don't know how long it lasts, they'll waste their money buying those stuff without doing research, and BAM, there goes 3 trips to Hawaii with gals asking you to dance and go to the nude beach.

Point is, no matter how cartoons resembles reality, at the core it is still a cartoon.

What most kids suffer is the "paradise syndrome". Unless they've touched reality in a very young age, they will have this problem. It starts simply by "What if I could....?" "What is my dream...?", or "Why can't I have...?", questions like that. That Honda engine in a Skyline is a perfect example. They like Honda engines and believe they are the best engines ever made (well, liter to hp wise), and they also like Skyline styling. "What if we put those together and create the ultimate machine?" You know, dreams like that. It will be physically impossible, but hey, there's always a miracle.

Okay then, but do you think that the target audience* is smart enough to distinguish the difference between truth and fantasy?

If their are some kids which are talking tech talk to you, why are you getting pissed off? It maybe okay to think that if they are young and think they know what they are doiongbut they dont.
If you think they are being stupid why dont you go up to them and ask them how adding a intercooler to a skyline help the performance of the overall car. It will stump them. And anyway, I just found out about inital D here and I think its the greatest thing ever. In A few years it will probably die down but for the minute Id like to enjoy without you wrecking it.

Hang on. Just to make a point, there's a very common category in between. Science fiction. Shows about what could be, but isn't. There's no category in your listing for that.


Back to the subject, I'm personally a big Initial D fan, and a big drift fan, and soon to be, drifter. However, on the Initial D front, I've been moderately into initial D for about 4 years, and really into it for about 1.5. So I'm not one of the new generation fans. Plus, I'm into Initial D because I'm into drifting and cars, not vice versa.

On the drifting front, my drifting learn ids being done in a properly prepared car, and most importantly, in a controlled environment, using Keiichi Tsuchiya's techniques, which he instructs in in the Drift Bible DVD.
