HI.

Sorry, I know this was posted before somewhere. Could anybody please link me to any drifting videos or strategy, or give me some tips on drifting (i.e. your style on doing it, the best cars to use, etc.)?

Just watched Initial D again!

I think that ppl have been reading too much SuperStreet magazine.
Its a big thing in Japan but dont really think its actually used in real racing. Well, maybe just a little.
Cars set up for drifting usually arent as fast as one set up properly for the track.
Good luck in your drifting. :D

Hm. Misnblu, basically, I just like to show off, and when I was watching (and reading [and playing]) Initial D, something went off in my head (the wow factor). My friend's brother is also pretty darn good at drifting, so I'm trying to get as good as him.

And I was wondering, what does any of this have to do with real racing? I just want to make some more fun out of a great game!

True, true.
I keep up with the sport compact scene and read all the magazines. You would be surprised at how many ppl are really setting their cars up to be drifting machines in real life.
I personally think its pretty cool and is about time its recognized as driving skills. :D
I didnt make the comment to offend anybody, just making a reply, from a older persons perspective.
Besides, I fail to realize the young crowd we have here on the gtplanet.
So in reply to the last post, its all good and love the game and drift whenever I get the shot.
Last thing, if youve been on the gtplanet long enough, you would know me to be the biggest advocate at having fun on this game. ;) :D
So have fun with it and remember, there is real drifting going on and is getting more popular, all for the wow factor.

Trust the Japanese to take something that is the byproduct of something else, and turn it into an artform of its own...

i just feel the need to make a correction here, drifting CAN be faster than grip, but NOT exhibition drifting (full opposite lock, lots of smoke from the tires) exhibition drifting is all for show, hence the exhibition, but speed drifting is MUCH faster than grip, if done properly

"At the first bend, I had the clear sensation that Tazio had taken it badly and that we would end up in the ditch; I felt myself stiffen as I waited for the crunch. Instead, we found ourselves on the next straight with the car in a perfect position. I looked at him, his rugged face was calm, just as it always was, and certainly not the face of someone who had just escaped a hair-raising spin. I had the same sensation at the second bend. By the fourth or fifth bend I began to understand; in the meantime, I had noticed that through the entire bend Tazio did not lift his foot from the accelerator, and that, in fact, it was flat on the floor. As bend followed bend, I discovered his secret. Nuvolari entered the bend somewhat earlier than my driver's instinct would have told me to. But he went into the bend in an unusual way: with one movement he aimed the nose of the car at the inside edge, just where the curve itself started. His foot was flat down, and he had obviously changed down to the right gear before going through this fearsome rigmarole. In this way he put the car into a four-wheel drift, making the most of the thrust of the centrifugal force and keeping it on the road with the traction of the driving wheels. Throughout the bend the car shaved the inside edge, and when the bend turned into the straight the car was in the normal position for accelerating down it, with no need for any corrections."

yea, i know that was a long time ago, but if enzo said it was fast, it musta been :D
btw, i got that from here: http://www.ddavid.com/formula1/art_of_driving.htm

yea, its hard on tires, that fact and the fact that it takes much more skill to learn it compared to grip is why no one really does it anymore, they either grip or exhibition drift. unless you count rally racing, but they really have no choice but to drift

ive gotten pretty good at drifting, its taken me about 1 year off and on, but i can hold it pretty well, my problem was, i got into racing games LONG before i knew ANYTHING about driving, so its been tough to break the habit of flooring it and praying you make it to the finish line sometime soon,

If you notice... turning a corner... you break, accelerate and turn... drifting is that all in one... so its not neccesarily slower... cause your still doing quite a speed and dont need to slow down like you normally would + scrubs your tyres out alot quicker (trust me, the ones on my skyline are f##ked :P) But True it is no used in common racing besides rallys... but it is always a fun way of taking a corner and a good thing to master to hone up some skills but can be frustrating  Ciao. Happy Drifting :D

Anyone who's played Grand Prix Legends would be more than familiar with this concept.

Actually, anybody who's watched a good run replay in GT3 should also be familiar with true drifting. Any time the car is taking a corner at speed, without tire smoke, you can see the slight lateral movement of a good four-wheel drift beautifully in some views.

For the 40th time, I really wish that the exhibition-type sliders hadn't co-opted the term DRIFT to describe what they do. It makes this whole discussion much more difficult.
