Does it mean that I'm dependant on liqour? Sometimes I can't sleep, I work a late night job, and I'm up around 4-5am sometimes and just can't sleep. Is it any different than sleeping pills? Sometimes drinking a little liqour before bed helps me calm down and relax. It's not that I'm stressed, but sometimes I get excited about life, and I just cant sleep. When I'm drunk (or close to it) it's much easier to fall asleep. I don't drink any other time during the day (unless I'm at a party!). The only other thing that helps is pulling an all nighter so that the next day I don't have a problem falling asleep.

What do you think?

Alcohol I've heard will interfere with your REM sleep. Which is bad, as you need REM to stay sane basically. And yes, it is different than sleeping pills. And quite bad if you need to get drunk. I'll have a small amount of Bailey's or a beer sometimes, and that just relaxes me a bit, but getting drunk never leads to a refreshing sleep.

If you are having huge issues sleeping, you should consider looking at how you eat and act. Don't have anything to eat a couple hours before you want to go to bed, and actually set a time where you will go to bed, et cetera.

It's something I promised to avoid. I'd rather have insomnia than a drinking problem although driving would be a problem either way.

Yep. Alcohol = bad sleep. Drink some hot milk instead.

If you need alcohol to do anything, you're an alcoholic. Unless it's to clean the lens on your PS2.

You have to change your way of life.

* Go to bed every evening at the same time. Get up every morning at the same time, is possible!

* Don't exercise or work out before you go to bed.

* Don't eat too much before you go to bed.

* Try to relax before you go to bed, do some relaxation exercises if necessary.

* Like famine said, drink hot milk before you go to bed.

* Take omega 3 fatty acids. It's good for your body overall and it helps your brain to function much better.

Hmm...this is interesting. I've had a small glass of whisky before and it put me right out. I don't remember if I had a good sleep or not, but I'm pretty sure I woke up happy. I can't stand drinking milk before bed because it seems I always wake up with a stuffy nose. Plus warm milk is awful.

What happens when you chug a bunch of water before going to sleep? Eating a big meal or drinking a lot of water wears me out, so I go right to bed.

Milk is mucus forming which is probably why you woke-up with a stuffy nose.

You wet the bed.

Isn't REM sleep when you dream? 'Cause let me tell you, I've had some weird dreams when after falling asleep drunk.

You've had 'Mr. Potato Head People' come knocking on your door in order to kill you, too?

If you're so dependent on alcohol, get rid of everything except for Cinnamon Schnapps. Have fun sleeping with your mouth on fire.

I know it's a bad habbit, but I always work out/exercise before I go to bed. I usually sleep like a log after I cool down and shower.

What's the side effect of that?

keef--That's why I don't drink milk or eat a lot of dairy products or eggs--cause they give me stuffy nose.. AZN medicalness FTW!!!

I also don't eat meat--only [usually organic] vegetables.

And for all the people who say this will make you little and shrimpy, look at me--December 4th birthday, one of the youngest in my grade, but one of the biggest--5'11" or maybe 6', and 182 lbs.

Well I always feel better after waking up drinking all night. Especially if I party. Ive never had a hang over in my life, and I've gotten piss drunk, never really understood that. But anyway, I never feel like I didnt get a good nights sleep after drinking, its always the other way around. I dont drink beer because of the calorie i intake.

I guess I'll just do it when I really need to sleep even though it's probably bad.

The next time I can’t fall asleep, I’m going to go to my school’s iTunes Podcast website and listen to a chem lecture – I’m positive it’ll put me to sleep.

You might want to try that. ;)

Probably nothing bad, except that fasting for 7 hours after exercising isn’t the best idea – do you eat right before or after exercising?

That's pretty messed up. If large amounts of alcohol actually make you feel better, you might very well be on your way to chemical dependency.

I don't really get bad hangovers, either, but to truly "sleep it off", I have to sleep 12-14 hours. That's not conducive to a productive lifestyle.

If it's really that bad, try some SleepMD. I remember my dad took one of those and it totally knocked him on his ass for like an entire day.

alchoholism is the dependance on alchohol and thats what your doing. there are many other ways to fall asleep. i have the same problem too. i found that if i suround myself with pillows, or sleep with my face right in the corner of the wall at the top of my bed, i can get to sleep really easy. but if im not in a situation like that i am going to have a really terrible sleep.
