This video is kind of old, it may have been posted, I am not sure. Nonetheless, watch it again if you have already seen it. This video is the best and most moving safe driving video I have ever seen. It is so strong that on facebook I have seen hoons think twice about driving dangerously now.

I want everyone here to watch this just to see how much of an impact your driving can have on people and being a driving forum of 130000+ people this is a great place to post it too.

If you are faint hearted, you are now warned not to watch

That's a great video mate.. Really taught me to drive safely next time around.

Evanescence really tops up the sadness of the video...

EDIT: I forgot to mention, yep this video is soo strong! Sort of like a very powerful drug or something...

I disagree. It all depends on your experience. I doubt you've ever hit a pedestrian with your car before, otherwise you would feel differently, I guarantee you that.

I have seen it before and my god it is horrible. They only got hit hard enough to break a leg but my god that is a noise I never EVER want to hear again. Me and my mate were just 2 metres behind the two who got hit (they were friends with each other). What happened was they were waiting on the side of a road to cross. This side has two lanes and a 4WD stopped to let the cross, another lady behind the 4WD got impatient and sped around the 4WD failing to realise why it stopped. She hit the two guys with a terrible noise and then blamed it entirely on them and drove off .

So a guy making out with his young girlfriend gets crushed by a car that has barrel rolled off the side of the road isn't an over exaggeration? Or the chick he was making out with missed death by inches but stared into her lovers eyes as he dies isn't cliché? All the while Evanescence is playing....

It's called shock tactics, and I think they went way overboard. Maybe I've spent too much time on 4chan, but I laughed at how pathetically grabby that was. Also, showing a month old baby go splat on a windscreen (blood and all) shows what lengths the creators will go to to be, I feel, remembered for their 'classic' advertisement on road safety. That's the impression I get. Career opportunities and $$ over their actual care for road safety.

Opinions, eh :)

It's not a question of showing or not showing the baby crashing onto the windscreen. The question is: Is it more or less like that when a baby hits your windscreen in real life, yes or no.

Have you experienced that as a driver? Well, I did. So for sure you can imagine that I have different emotions when watching this.

And now go back to 4chan and have a pleasant day. :yuck:

While I agree they went a little over dramatic on how the pedestrian got hit (pinned against his girlfriend as they were making out) I do believe the baby one has a stronger message than just shock factor. So many people don't think about unrestrained humans, animals, steeringlocks, drink bottles (etc etc) and what they do in a accident. Small dogs sitting on the rear parcel shelf during a accident will likely kill the dog but possibly humans too, this is why not wearing a seatbelt will put others in a lot of risk also. The baby scene shows how anything unrestrained becomes a projectile.

Oh and I have arrived to render assistance at a accident moments after a pedestian walked in front of a car, I didn't see or hear the accident but I saw the aftermarth of what was left of the pedestrians head (smashed up the upper windsreen edge of the roof, died immediately) and the young driver who was distraught (not his fault).

And you're telling me to leave because ... why exactly?

My opinion is different than yours

I haven't struck a pedestrian before

I'm unaware of the existence of car seats for children

👎 Grow up, not everyone shares the same opinions in this world.

@ Jay, have you seen the Mythbusters ep with the tissue box on the parcel shelf?

I have a while ago but memory details are sketchy (don't think it did much damage?), but what I am talking about is much heavier than a tissue box.

Ahh I was hoping you could tell me if it did damage or not because I've forgotten too. Nevermind.

I think they tested heavier objects too like cans of drink and stuff. Can't remember.

I almost got rear ended yesterday. The car in front of me stopped in order to turn left, so I stopped behind him, and as I sat there for almost a good minute waiting for traffic on the highway to give him an opening to turn, I all of a sudden hear tire screeching...I look in my rear view and instinctly turn my wheel towards the ditch and hit the gas. When the guy finally stopped, his bumper was basically sitting where my back seat was before I moved, and only about 3 feet from where I was sitting in the gravel on the side of the road.

The best part was I remained calm, where as the guy that almost hit me was shaking his head like it was our fault he almost ran into me. WTF is that!

Quick thinking is such a good thing to have at a time like that :scared:.

The only parts that got me where when they were showing the parents' their dead child's body. That's about it.

And I laughed at the baby flying through the car and hitting the windshield.

This unfortunetly I see too often, people who text and drive. Mostly they'll slow down to ten under the speed limit without realizing. But other times they'll drift into another lane.

This actually does happen in similar fashion:

Over exaggeration and cliché to the max.
Or you could understand the point and leave it at that. Congrats, now everyone is looking at you like an idiot for disrespecting lives that have been lost because of people that think videos that include real life footage like this are over exaggerated and cliche.

Yawn...

Advertisments like this have been played on Australian TV for over a decade. It's nothing new to me. I find it more offensive that the general public are so stupid that they need ads like this crammed down their throats every night to understand the repercussions of hitting a person with 2 tonnes of metal at 100km/h.

I guess I'm just odd..

I suppose it may be hard to understand the point of safe driving in the first place, repercussions aside, unless you've caused crashes before and ruined other people's property through your own carelessness. It makes you feel like a big idiot to say the least, and you think just before it happens "Wow, that wasn't worth what I'm about to..." If you can't tell by the looks on those people's faces in that video what they're thinking sitting there all bloody after it happens then I guess I can't help you.

Just remember that crazier things have happened.

I happen to live in Australia and have never seen something sending such a strong message anywhere in my life, let alone on Australian TV. The worst I have seen on Australian TV is a guy go 5km/h over the limit and hitting a ped at below 5km/h.

Of course we know that people shouldn't be stupid enough to need this, but they do. This video sends messages to the people that are stupid and everyone else that watches it. Like the old saying goes, "if you have got nothing good to say about it, dont say anything at all".

Which is why I said the whole thing smacks of career notoriety. Seriously it's like they sat around and brainstormed the most graphic situations as part of a tuesday afternoon at the office - which is why it comes across as cliché to me.

These ads have been around for yonks and they obviously aren't working. Maybe they should take the German's way and actually educate the public instead of putting speed cameras everywhere and telling us graphically that YOU WILL DIEEEEE if you speed by 5km/h. They still let mum teach the kids how to drive instead of actual accredited driveer training 👎

Mate you sound like my grandma.

I believe this one would work extremely well if it were shown around the world. By the sounds of it maybe you should go live in Germany if thats the way you like it? I would prefer being taught by my parents due to the comfort factor and ability to be more relaxed and questionable.

Sorry you just lost all credibility on this subject to me. Allowing kids to be taught how to drive by their alcoholic/manic depressive/uneducated etc parents is the biggest problem with road safety in our country.

And before you misinterpret my post, no I didn't just call your parents alcoholics etc.

Umm, excuse me? Being taught by your parents should not be an issue at all. If peoples parents can be that bad of drivers it isn't really their fault. Whoever taught them is at fault so to be honest we wouldn't have a problem with being taught by parents had the teaching been done properly in the first place. In most cases it is being done properly so your point is basically invalid. I really highly doubt that being taught by your parents is the BIGGEST problem on our roads, it is the idiots on them.

The people on them are the people shown in this video, the alcoholics, the party goers, the people with peer pressure, the people going out for fun etc. They are the biggest problem on the road, not the parents trying to do the right thing by teaching their own children...

Whoa, what a video.
I remember seeing this sort of stuff at the Australian Youth and Road Trauma Forum. If you see one of those demonstrations live it just hits you. It's all dramatised but still the attempt to make it realistic was deep.

Read that again. Please.

Driver education is the single most important thing we can do to make the roads safer. It should only be done by professionals. Period.

I actually have a problem with the baby one. It wasn't really an issue of his driving, it was more or less the stupidity of the parents for not putting the baby in the baby seat. That baby could have been hurt whether he was in an accident or not, like if he cornered to fast and it flew out the window...I lost a cell phone that way.
