Driving distance and online play?

Doesn't GT5 count the driving distance for our cars when driving free run sessions online?

I ask because I just bought a Nissan 300ZX earlier today. I went online to test it out and I ended up in a room where they were just about to start a 3 lap race on the Nordschleife. I raced along but only managed to drive about 2½ laps because the winner was way ahead of me. After this I went back to my garage to check the stats on my Nissan and saw that the car had a driving distance of 51.8 km. That makes perfect sense considering the lenght of the Nordschleife.

Afterwards I decided to practice some drifting on Tsukuba and I found a room with some Japanese guys to drift with. In this room I drove 10-15 free run laps but when I went back to my garage again the driving distance counter on my Nissan 300ZX still said 51.8 km. Is this a bug or is there a good explanation? :dunce:

Only racing milage counts online. Free Run does not. I'd prefer it if no milage was counted though. The GT Auto prices are ridiculous, and online doesn't pay a lot.

I would have liked free run driving distance to be counted too. A few cars I have should have ran hundreds of kilometers each in online free runs alone.
I wonder if it's a mistake by PD or a deliberate choice to promote proper racing (since almost nobody seems to want to do that).
It bugs me anyway that the game has got plenty of little bugs like this that could be easily found and addressed. It's like PD don't care much about them.

Just curious, what's the benefit of mileage besides breaking in the engine? The variable horsepower thing is a bit of a pain when your HP goes up to the point where your car in no longer race eligible, even though it was 2 race ago.

Ok but here's another weird thing I came across regarding driving distance. After I created this thread I wanted to check if the distance counter was stuck at 51.8 km. So I took my Nissan for a singleplayer practice session on Trial Mountain. I just drove one lap and when I went back to my garage it had moved from 51.8 km to 76.0 km. Trial Mountain is not that long so I really don't know what to think at this point. Can we trust those distance counters at all?

I think free run counts.

I bought a new car , ran about 4 laps at the ring in qualifying, then a 5 lap race. All online of course.

Back in the garage the car had 117 miles which is roughly 10 Nurburgring laps not just 5 race laps .

It may just take time to update

What I dont like is online wins dont count towards the car's total

If free run counted...then everyone would be creating rooms just to free roam in and cheap up the miles.

I think I found out how it works but it's weird. If you go back to your garage after an online race the driving distance on the car you used won't update. However, if you take the same car to a track in one of the singleplayer game modes then it will update when you return to the garage and it will add the distance you have driven online (races only) up to this point. That's why my Nissan 300ZX jumped from 51.8 km to 76.0 km after just a single lap on the Trial Mountain track in Practice mode. I also noticed that the number of wins counter isn't affected as promised in the last patch description. At least it doesn't count online wins when you view the winning car in your garage. I'm not sure if it affects our overall profile stats though.

If that is the case the system is definitely broken. My online free run driving doesn't seem to count at all.

I don't see why that would be a cheap way to add distance. Driving is driving no matter how you do it.

I just ran 30 laps in free run at Laguna trying to break in my Super GT. I checked my garage and there's still no mileage. Does arcade races/free run count too?

I just find it weird that the driving distance on my Nissan 300ZX was showing the driving distance immediately after the online race I did on the Nordschleife (as I wrote in the OP). As I wrote in my last post there are also times where it won't update until the the car has been used in singleplayer mode. I'm still puzzled.

Well, I think they count, but like you said take time to update.
What I was wondering though was: if you take one of the 'preset' cars from the garage list (so you can have 'fairer' races), does this affect the driving distance too?
Harder to find out because you can't just go and look at the driving distance of your car.
