Driving force: great, except with ...GT3

I purchased the "official GT3 wheel" last year, it is (imho) a good product when using it with WRC on the PS2 and with CMR2, CMR3, F12002 and F1 career on the PC.
But I was very desapointed when using it with GT3. Let me explain: most sim allows you to set dead zone and the sensitivity o all the axis, none of that is available in GT3, just a calibration stuff. There is a couple of options like amateur etc.. but no info about what each option does. When selecting any option the car reacts the same way: unstable and slow to turn.
Did I missed something ?

The wheel strangely don't feel like it goes with the game. You cannot keep the car straight, you turn it don't turn right away. Its about the worst $80 I've every bought in my life. I bought it 2 years too.

I bought the GT Force (the GT3 official) and since I didn't have any table to mount it handy so I use my laps to hold it. Terrible. I returned it the next day.

What do you guys mount your steering wheel to? I know there are quite some companies selling those driving cockpits but they are f'king expensive.....like they only plan to sell to exhibitioners......I wonder how many of you actually have that kind of cockpits.

And if you, like me, think that those are too expensive, what would be the comfortable level of prices you would consider getting one? I think if the Logitech one can come down to 300~350 I'll probably get one (but then they only sell it in Japan I can't afford the shipping of such big thing either)

Uh, first it's not fair to judge the wheel by having it between your legs. That's how I had mine until last week and I was able to drift with it just fine.

I mount my steering wheel on a simple TV dinner table. It works fine for me and I can move it outta the way when I'm not using it.

I only have one problem with my GTF. For some reason the brake only registers about 2/3 of the way down. I'm not sure why. But that's what it does. I just adjust my brake balance accordingly. But other then that. It just about rules.

The wheel works fine.
Yes you're right, the wheel works fine...with every racing sim except GT3
When turning in GT3 it seems that there is no deadzone ( that's the reason why it's difficult to maintain the car straight ) and that the sensitivity is too low and not linear.
Just to make things clear: I LIKE that wheel, i just don,t like the way GT3 handles it.

Hmm....I like the fact that it has no dead zone. To be honest, I don't want one. I like the fact that it has very little play and is quite sensitive. When I first started I was trying to drive it like I would a DS2, constatly hard over one way or the other. But now I've gotten accostume to the more precise inputs needed to make the wheel do the work for you instead of you working the wheel.

I know it's all just opinion and that's cool. But I think the wheel is tight. Can't weight to try the DFP!

This is a verified hardware bug with the Drive force.

Fortunately, there is a fix:

Logitech Driving Force Steering Wheel Braking Fix

I successfully performed this fix on my old Drive Force, and it made a world of difference.

I've since moved on to the MOMO, and recently moved on to the DFP...Great Wheel!

Thanx a lot! That's a great help!

Yesterday night, after reading your post, I decided to give my driving force a 2nd chance , connected it back to my PS2 and fired GT3.
Maybe my problem is that I was treating the wheel like a DS2. I see your point now.

Just one extra question concerning the configuration: The driving force option in GT3 have 4 settings: beginner, amateur, pro and simulation. To be honest I don't feel a difference between the 4 settings. The GT3 manual says these are "preset" configurations ???.
Do you feel any difference using one setting or the other ?

Dang, I think GTP cut out right when I was replying to this post. That's why it took me so long to get back to you.

anyway. the 4 settings are totally preset. I feel a big difference between the 4 settings. I believe it's all about steering timing, but I could be wrong. I admit I'm kinda a wuss and leave it on amature. I tried Professional and Simulation but it was very difficult to countersteer. And since I'm into drifting, counter steer is everything!
