The DFP is the first wheel I've owned/used at home so I'm not sure if mine is defective or I just don't know how to use it. The problem is that I find it nearly impossible to travel in a straight line, especially using the chase view :irked:

The wheel is fantastic with that exception, after 6 hours I'm already turning faster lap times than with the dual shock controller and the game has become much more of a simulator than a game. Does anyone else have problems with straight line stability?

TIA

This is also my first wheel that I've owned, but I don't see your problem. I mean for me, my car goes pretty straight, but I have to go back and forth once in a while on a straight so I don't go off the road. If you hold your wheel, does it still not go straight?

With mine the cars look like they are dancing on straights, almost like fishtailing, but not that severe. I've tried the wheel on every possible setting, with every type of car, and get the same results, I'm baffled because in cornering the car can be placed exactly where you want it to be, with absolute precision.

The only way to go completely straight is to let go of the wheel and allow the car to drive itself, but then, obviously, you aren't going straight on the track.

The wheel has what for lack of better terms I call slop when centered, sort of feels like an old car with a worn out steering box. (A better description is the wheel feels floaty in the center range)

The only time my car swerves is when I let go of the wheel completely. I get what you mean with the slop in the center because the wheel is very touchy in the center. So I don't know what to tell you, could be something wrong, but i just don't know.

You have to move the wheel in only extremely tiny amounts. Try practicing on the test course. The trick is to keep the wheel in the exact middle when the car is moving straight, and resist the urge to turn it at all. Leave it dead centre and do not touch it.

This was one thing that bothered me with the old Driving Force wheel.
I don't rememeber there being a deadzone..
Now my DFpro is on the way so I guess we'll see.

Nope. No deadzone adjust.
The only reason it's hard to keep it centered is because of the 90 degree steering limit.
In 900 degree mode you can rotate the wheel a full 90 degrees and barely turn at all.

In the inside view. I can keep it in a straight line quite fine.

The DFP also makes Tokyo Xtreme Racer 3 about ten million times more playable.

What do you need a deadzone for? The DFP is so precise, there's no need for deadzone. Even on pc i can use 0% deadzone in sims.

Thank god, I have the old driving force wheel, and i love it for gt3, but it doesnt react at all on TXR 3 until it's at a certain point, so instead of smooth precise lane changes, you get a car quickly zinging in and out of lanes. It really takes the fun out of it.

I play with 90 degree mode.
If I tried with 900 degree mode I'd break the keyboard drawer off my desk.
My goal is to build a cockpit of some sort before GT4 comes out.

900 degree steering will be more refined in GT 4, right?

I sur hope so, because it is kinda hard to use on GT3. Hopefully in GT4 there will be a power steering mode so the wheel is easier to turn in 900 degree mode, because trying to go lock to lock, while drifting in GT3 900 mode is pretty difficult.

how do you set the wheel to 900 in gt3? i swear its software enabled so you cant :/

I think you need to press 'Select' 'R3' and 'Right Paddle' at the same time - the right LED should flick on.

Yep, that's right. Just make sure your wheel is centered when you do this.

Is steering at high speeds IRL just as hard as 900 degree mode in GT3? I'm guessing it's easier?

It's easier - I'm guessing the issue is that since GT3 was designed for a wheel with 180-210 degrees of lock, not 900 degrees, the amount of lock needed to acheive turn in is 4-5 times what you'd need with a GT-Force.

Certainly when driving in 900 degree mode you're aware that you need to wind on a lot more lock to initiate turn-in, more than would be needed in real life.

Countersteering is particularly difficult, and fast changes in direction are difficult as well.

It's quite physical though, and you need to use the gearstick rather than the paddles.

Yeah, it takes alot more wheel rotating to initiate turn-in.

I also noticed how light the gas pedal was, so I ripped the base apart and bent the spring out but had a hell of a time getting it back together. It's like the base is designed for the exact distance of the spring.

I like broke the end of the spring so it was all sharp and was digging in and there are these little tabs with wires coming out of them that rest in these little slots. If they arent in the slots, the pedals don't work. So yeah. It was fun. :banghead:

Good news: the pedal spring is harder now so I don't floor it when I so much as move my foot over it.
