I'm talking about the option "driving markers" not cones. Do these have any meaning or are they just for refrence points? I'm trying to be more authentic so I took off my brake indicator but having a hard time using driving markers. thinking about switching to cones. I have searched all over on these driving markers with no luck. they have (I think) hash marks on them from 3 to 1. Any help much appreciated.

I'm not really sure what the driving markers are, but my suggestion to you is to turn off all markers and cones. No cones, no markers, no driving lines, no brake indicator. Once you improve, all of these markings are inaccurate anyway, so they will become nothing more than a distraction from your real braking points. Driving without these will help you learn the track sooner and you'll find other things to use as a reference for braking and turn-in points. Good luck!

Driving markers are the blue things you see floating above the track, they tell you where to "aim" your car, great for blind corners or a string of corners. Unlike cones they can not be hit and moved by the cars.

They are like the cones. The show the entry point, the apex, and the exit point. Basically, if you drive the car through those marker points, you are on a good line (most of the time). The upside is that, unlike the cones, they don't have collisions.

As for authenticity, it's likely not far off in the near future to have AR helmets with information like this being portrayed. Personally, since I have access to real race tracks in the real world, GT is, in itself, and authentic experience of it's own. I accept it for being a digital world race and, as such, I accept the digital advantages.

I sold a track day to a guy once. He lost control, was hit by another participant, and died at the scene. That's a disadvantage to the real world. Since I am happy to accept all the other digital advantages, like not dying, I'm happy to use the markers. They are super helpful, especially when there is a car obscuring your braking reference.

What an awful deal. I had to attend the funeral of a close friend we lost due to racing just a couple of years ago.

Oh ya. He was a bit of newbie. There was an accident ahead of him and he panicked. He lost the front and was hit by a following rider. I think the physical aspect of reality is something that people forget. They focus on the vehicles.

You forget how hot it can be, or fatiguing, or, in some cases, downright dangerous. I have been lucky to have only been stretchered away once.

I think that's one of the reason that I find it easier to separate GT from reality. I am not searching for a way to experience the real thing. I am looking for a less risky alternative.

Downside to cones. If you have them on all the players that have them off can still run over your cones. It has no effect on the car that has them off as we do not even see them. If you hit the cone I ran over that I did not see, when you hit it, it can upset your car. I just use the markers since I sometimes cant tell the distance to a corner. I guess it due to only a 2 D display.

I think people have started to think that racing is safe now. There are still many people getting hurt or killed every year partaking in the hobby they love. It just kills me to hear guys talk about taking shortcuts on safety because they couldnt afford anything better. If you cant afford the best safety products available how are you going to afford the hospital bills and the time you miss from work???

My goodness, what an awful experience. I can understand why you can separate GTS from reality.
It's a "sim" but in truth it doesn't get anywhere near actually racing, obviously, and great as it is..... you can screw up, but not get hurt or cause thousands of dollars worth of damage.
My wife bought me a "track experience" many years ago. I went around a racing circuit in an Audi A3. The instructor kept telling me I could take certain bends much faster. I declined! He took me around for a couple of laps at the end and I nearly 🤬 myself!
He told me it was a bog-standard A3, no mods except for tyres which were racing tyres.
Although still far from being a sim (as they all are) I still love GTS, and am so happy we can get a "safe" partial experience. My heart does race in some races!

I think Driving line is fine if you are new to the game or track, though sometimes the GT driving line is not always the fasters but its a good guide, when you racing online you can also observe the other players driving lines and break points with will help you get quicker.

I find using the blue “floating” markers to be useful when learning a new track. No need to look at the map when the markers are active. If a marker is on the left side, the next corner is to the right...and vice verse. They may not help you to get the fastest lap possible, but they’re not completely useless

Apparently we need thread markers.

If you want to discuss the relative merits and downfalls of capitalism and socialism, we have an extraordinary Opinions and Current Events forum. This isn't it.
