Just stumbled upon this on youtube. Would love to see something like this in Gran Turismo. And given the number of "road laws" lobbies out there I assume I'm not alone.

Of course, the ultimate dream would be the Grand Tour special event and actually do the driving between the different races and time trials as well... I guess it would take some time to model all of the road from Switzerland to Rome, but maybe they can just buy one of those Google street view cars and come up with some smart way to turn the photos into a 3D landscape. Which Google actually already does, although the quality is not the best.

And there's already automated techniques to remove people and cars (given that they are moving) from photos, so combining this with a refined Google street view scanning might not be very far away in the future...

And combining all that with the cars and physics of GT5 (well, it's probably gonna be GT6 or GT7 or maybe even GT8 before it's actually doable and looking good, but still) would be like driving in heaven. And who knows, perhaps we'll even have flying cars by then?

or they could use the same effort and money to make 800 cars premium.

has anyone tried city car driving, 3d instructor or whatever it's called now? I found it a couple of months ago but never tried it.
Could be fun just like that old road driving instructor I can't remember its name (the very first one in which you could make cars fly)

Who would want to sit in traffic in a game when you might do that in real life??? We play games to experience something we might not otherwise, not to have do exact same thing as we do in real life.

Halvtaskig ide, jag ger den 3/5. :p

The video was interesting to watch and I wouldn't actually mind trying it but I can't ever imagine Gran Turismo ever wanting to implement city cruising into the series. Personally, it would ruin the game for me and I'm sure many others. Even though Gran Turismo is a driving simulator, it's still all about racing and not sitting in traffic. PD needs to focus more on the racing aspects of the game and less with the driving around town simulator.

If people think Gran Turismo is boring now, wait until they have deal with commuter traffic!

This type of environment is best left for Grand Theft Auto and Driver type games.

Driving in street traffic is actually quite boring...

Depends, also in a videogame it could be combined with all sorts of challenges.

Like I mentioned above, it could be made more interesting than your daily commute, and even when it isn't, I for one don't experience driving in traffic in some of the exotic cars available in GT5 in my real life situation, might be fun dealing with mundane stuff in the sort of cars I can only dream of owning if only to put them into another context than purely tracks only.

I can already go and drive outside in traffic, I really don't see the value in PD making a virtual driving instructor extension out of GT5, it's no replacement for actually going out and learning in a car with a human instructor.

This would be nice i would definitively pay for it if it was a DLC.

So would I.

Why do people assume that just because there is traffic, it means gridlock? FFS, try a bit of critical thinking. TDU has traffic and it makes the game, as opposed to ruins it. Driver SF has plenty of traffic, do you hear people complain? Of course not.

Even Forza has a sort of traffic mode where you can race another player/AI through slower AI. But every time this gets brought up, along come the geniuses with, "I can sit in traffic in real life." Seriously, is that what you think people are asking for?

I honestly couldn't imagine a better feature for this game to have. Racing with a buddy through traffic (hopefully in an open world)? Count me in!

It doesn't have to be an instructor necessarily, but any steps toward city driving (the real driving simulator) would be appreciated.

Sidenote: a few months ago I bought City Car Driving, but my HP computer (good choice wife!) doesn't run it. Been sitting here for months.

Someday.......

Gran Turismo is not about illegal street racing. There are plenty of other title that offer this type of racing if so desired. This game doesn't need to become one of them.

None of the other games drive as well as GT5 on console. So although they may offer the racing, they don't offer the driving. This is why this game needs to at least have the option, imo.

And plus I can see it being A LOT of work for them to implement.

If that were to be the future of the series I wouldn't be interested.

+1. I can't see it heading that direction anyways to be honest.

Me either. I mean the OP says that the legal driving rooms are very popular online but are they really? I doubt there are really that many different people doing that sort of thing.

Haha, the idea can be great but only if a small little variable is in: police.

Then if your car is fast you can outrun the cops and they would lose you. If the situation gets serious and you cause havoc in the city a "wanted" system from GTA can be used and it all ends when you encounter a road block. Then a funny cutscene is shown where they detach your plates and you are presented a big fine (there could also be that descending tear from anime).

As a mini game that would be really cool!

That would never happen (thankfully) in a GT game because so many manufactures don't want their cars associated with such illegal activities.

Oh, you're right! Then I guess there could be the option between arcade and sim. In the latter the game ends if you pass with red, crash or disobey a sign.
Hmmm... the arcade would be too much like GTA and that is already better at that. But for the sim rules I could see this mode incorporated into the driving licence tests!

Wow, that's pretty rad. I don't think it would be boring, there are train sims out there, kinda expensive on Steam, but they look awesome. The key points to these games are the massive city layouts that games like GT doesn't offer. I would love to hit the Autobahn or the Tokyo Shutoku highway system.

I'm impressed, the variety of the traffic cars and the whole city is fantastic.

That would be awesome to race down the Wangan swerving in and out of traffic...

I'm going to have to look into this City Driver simulation...
