Driving View and Sound FX

Which view do you prefer when your driving, and do you find that different views affect your driving style/performance?

I prefer the exterior camera, but I'm starting to like the 1st person camera more.

I really wish they'd use the 1st person sound fx for the chase camera too. When you're inside the car the induction sound and the sound of a blow-off valve dumping it's air is great and really adds to the enjoyment of driving, but when your outside the car the engine and exhaust sounds are muffled. When you use the outside car camera, then surely these sounds would be amplified.

Anyone else agree?
 
Well that depends now, are you talking about stock store cars or race stripped cars?

If you are going to race a car and make it lighter you don't care much for soundproofing every kilogram saved helps you going faster, braking later, cornering better and in real life better fuel consumption and tyre wear :)

As far as playing 3rd person... I need to be in 3rd person when I rally soi I can see what the car does and react to that, kind of a the way in real life you can feel what the car is going to do trought the "seat of your pants"
 
I most definately prefer the 'cockpit' view. Like Talentless, I have an extremely difficult time driving from the outside!:odd: Lately I've been trying to improve though!
 
1st person. In the next installment (if its not already in GT4) I would really like to see my steering wheel, hands, shifter, etc. And when rallying, dirt and mud could get on the windshield.

In fact, if they just let cars get dirty it would be great. Who gives a schmidt about damage anyway?

I'd like to see dirt on the cars after you've been driving them for a while. Mud from the rally stages and oil and brake dust on the asphalt circuits. This way the cars would look properly used.

I know somebody with a yellow Ferrari F355 spider which is driven regulary, very hard. When the Ferrari mechanic came out to do the service, the car was dirty and the wheels were black with brake dust. The mechanic said that it was refreshing to see a Ferrari that was used as it should be, and that 90% (probably a bit of an exaggeration) of the cars he did the service on were sat in car parks with flat tyres because the owners were bored with them or too busy to drive them. What a waste!:(
 
Well the reason it sounds muffled from behind is because umm..there is a MUFFLER! And in the first person view the muffler is behind so you get to hear the true engine sound..Yeah I like the sound of the first person view but I drive from the exterior view more..

Chris, not all of the cars have mufflers on them. After you add the racing muffler, it no longer has a muffler on it. Plus a car like the C5R with the straight pipes coming out the side of the car would make the inside pretty loud, especially when you consider it has a 427 providing a symphony of awesome American grunt. But PD really messed the C5R's sound up, it sounds weak.

Well as of right now, I'm anyways from half a second to a full second faster from the outside view . . . but I'm working pretty hard to get better at using the bumper view. The bumper view definitely needs to be improved in GT4, and just as badly the sound FX.

No need to be patronising, Chris. I am aware that a muffler, does the job of muffling the sound of the engine (funny, that:rolleyes: ), which would otherwise be earsplitting. But, I think in GT3 they have overdone it a little. Anyway, if your sitting infront of the muffler then the sound is always going away from you, and if your directly behind the muffler then the sound is always coming towards you.

You would think that if you were following, say, a Toyota Altezza RS200 with a straight-through, unmuffled, racing exhaust system then the sound might be a little more than a dull hum. I have done, and after five minutes the noise gave me a headache.

Maybe, PD want to discourage the use of the out of car camera view which, like yourself, I prefer. Let's hope that they address this issue in the next version.

I use the 3rd person view, I would drive with a cockpit view if there was one though...I can't drive with the bumper cam...:|
 
i hope they fix the BOV (blow off valve) sounds
example if your hit a ripple strip it goes off like 20 times
and if your changing gears but your off the throttle it still blows off when it souldnt
and if i change gears with the throttle flat (like ya do most the time in GT3) it still completely blows off
when in a real car it doesnt do this

oh by the way i use the exterior view and sometimes the infront view to hear the crappy BOV

i would use a dash view if they had it
 
I'm pretty amazed that so many people use the 3rd person view. The only time I've ever used the outside view was on the slalom license tests in GT2 so I could see exactly how close the barriers were to the car.

You can't see the steering wheel, but I don't get the feeling that the 1st person view is actually out in front of the front wheels. Either way, it's certainly preferable to hovering over the car.
 
I can use both without any real problem, but I often use 3rd person view. The 1st person is to big for me to use. I use the 16x9 option on my HDTV set and it just doesn't work that well in 1st for me. I do love the sounds of the tranny, wind and the POV better in 1st but I don't like the "bumper cam" view. I hope they raise it up for GT4, or have an in dash cam angle.

I totally agree with you with it being a waste. I don't see a point in owning a car if you are not going to drive it. And basically I don't care for a vehicle that is just a show vehicle. I think it is kinda dumb to have a visably pleasing vehicle, but you don't take the joy in driving it regulary. I almost really doubt that the 90% is much of an exaggeration. If I had the money to own a Ferrari or the such, I would drive it regulary. Every weekend, and as many times as possible during the week. How could you get bored of a Ferrari, or even too busy to drive one for that matter? It's kinda like that Porsche Boxster commercial . . . I would start making excuses just to drive the car. Hey, if you have the December 2002 issue of Road and Track, you can look at the front of the McLaren F1 and see that it has been driven at least some. You can see some chips and scratches on the front bumper of the car. Finally, a performance car used how it is supposed to be!

Yeah me too, but at least the person who owns it drives it, instead of letting it sit.
 
Mostly 3rd person. 200 watts of the RS2000 for the sweet import sound at low rpm's. Pulling redline in an NSX down a straightaway. Ooooooooohhhhhhhh yeeeeeeaaahhhhh. Nothing sounds like a Pioneer.
