Driving without aids

I've been practicing driving my Bentley without the aids, except ABS and Traction Control.

I decided to keep those as they are aids that are likely to be fitted to the car.

My question is, are the other aids available in real life? Can you get Active Stability Control, or Skid Recovery?

BTW.... I guessed no-one has fitted "driving line" just yet.....:)

But ASM(Active stability managment) is something we find in cars. I had a WV Passat TDI with stability system(In real life that is).
 
Benz ususally uses the term ASM, seen it on my dad's old S320.
VW & Audi tends to used the term ESP, which is just the same thing. Really a popular thing now.
Skid recovery force is effectively changing the earth's physics...

I have a Passat W8! I didn't know it had "stability control" until defaultoasis pointed out that was ESP. Now I know!!

You know, with advancements in GPS, I bet "Driving Line" won't be too far off reality.

You know when your out drinking and getting ****faced every weekend, and suddenly come home with an STD? Yeah, and i went to the doctor and i also had to try to explain it to my GF that i must have gotten it from a toiletseat or something, that was some hard convincing!

Wel, after a while, and some help from some friends that wouched fro me i got in the clear=)

Another thing that works is just denying everything, if you just deny it long enough, a girl wil belive you ;)

The funny thing is that over the years I've often found that a lot of the hardcore types that boast about how they rock it without ABS, TCS, ESC, and so forth still lean on the least-realistic aid of them all - the magic race line. Anybody that relies on the race line has no business scoffing at anybody for using ABS or TCS because at least those exist in reality, even if not on all cars. No car has a magic race line feature built into it.

Very true. I don't remember it being in the older GT games.

Plus, it's dynamic.... the faster you are going, the longer the red line.

I kept it on for quite some time, until I'd got used to the courses. Switching it off was like a breath of fresh air.... it made the whole experience much more realistic.

Switching the others off has made the Bentley much more twitchy.... but much more fun!
 
I believe having abs is the least you should have...no TCS can be dealt with practicing on your gas pedal, but its pretty hard in DS3

LOL at the shear thought of GT5 Bumper cam w/ driving line on the GPS screen at a trackday.
 
I enjoy the Bently without any assists turned on but to master it's power it took a few hours around Le Mans.
Going slightly off topic, isn't the correct term 'aides' as is something which aides you?
(I'm going to check right now, it's the kind of thing one should know being an English teacher) :dunce:

Just checked it out and I'm sure it's 'aides', like in the term 'hearing aide'.

Aide is only a special-use term, it is short for aide-de-camp from the French 'camp adjutant', and refers only to a person who assists another, like a politician or a military officer. The correct word here would be aid (count noun), as this is a more general term referring to any source of help or assistance, and would include electronic driving aids.

In real life aides are present... The only ones that don't exist in real life are steering assist (unless you count those cars that try to parallel park themselves), the driving line comments earlier were pretty funny. It would be cool to have a gps device projecting a driving line on your windshield or some sort of HUD.

Real Life driving aides are...

Easy ones are TCS and ABS (present in all modern production cars, and present in various modern race cars)

ASM is present in some high end (luxury) cars like Mercs,BMW, I think Lexus. In real life ASM is a mix of an active suspension system paired with an active LSD/TCS system that transfers engine power to the wheels that need it.

The above is pretty much the same as Skid force recovery (at least in the real world)

Some modern race cars use almost all of these aides in real life. Before the rules changes in F1 a few years ago, F1 cars were employing all of these above aids. Under the new rules they have limitted the aids allowed. In LMS racing (not sure if they have changed rules within the last few years) the prototype class cars use all of these aides aswell. The cars are so easy to drive they are sometimes called "driverless" cars (I'm not saying anyone could drive them, or you don't need a tallented driver behind the wheel). They are just very comfortable to drive (as comfortable a race car can feel).

Generally in my rooms I disable Skid Recovery Force and the Driving Line (which tends to promote dumb driving).
 
I tried to drive without aids for an online racing series I'm part of (see my sig!). Anyways, unless you have hours to practice without aids, at the very least you need traction control at 2 and maybe abs at 3. There is a dude in the series who rolls with no aids at all and he kicks azz like the '84 Tigers. That's some serious skill right there.

Ya sorry, I kinda mis worded my post. I meant to say that ASM is as close to a Skid Recovery Force that you will find in real life. ASM helps "prevent" skid or "traction" loss.

I started out (with a DS3) by switching everything off, including ABS, as this is how I had it in Forza 3. Annoyed the hell out of me that I had to keep doing it (didn't remember my preferences). I found it tricky at first, but soon got used to it. I used the stick on triggers as the DS3 pad is a bit naff, they helped a little, but practice is the only thing that really works. Switch em off and stick with it!
