DS2 Quality Control?

I have noticed that on my PS2 controller (a recent DS2), there is a fair amount of beige powder around the L3 button. It also seems to affect the quality of the calibration of the L3 button as well; in GT4 (which recently quit) the car's brakes were erratic; in other games the player tended to have a strong right-hand bias during gameplay (not too sure how to describe it). I believe that some sort of powder is used for lubrication for these new controllers, and its presence on the controller's exterior is odd considering that I do not regularly use the L3 button, if at all. The same problem does not apply for the R3 button. My younger brother has the same problem with his controller as well, but not for the ones he owned in the past. The controller is a licensed product of Sony. Does anybody else have a similar problem with Dual Shock 2 types, or a solution or cause?

Yeah and old one of mine did that too, I just cleaned it off best I could. After a while I just went and got a new controller.

Welcome to every/any analogue stick ever created. The stick rubs against the gamepads casing and wears out. If you look at the stick itself you will see a ring being wore into it. The Dreamcast one was pretty hardy, but the N64 ones could be wore down to the point of snapping off, lol.

Wrong forum also.:dunce:

Well, the PS2 forum is dedicated to discussing games and games only, or so it seems...

I suppose then that answers my question; I just didn't expect it to wear out after 2 months.

Every once in a while clean the dust off and your DS2 will probably outlast your PS2.

My DS2 is about as semi-functional as my PS2, and I think it's the original controller. Only one of the rumblers works and the wiring is weak at both ends of the main cord, but the analog buttons work as well as ever. I discovered last night that my system's laser is too weak to read black PSX discs, too. Not much of a surprise considering it can barely read PS2 DVDs.

Anyway, superberkut, your DS2 ought to last for at least a couple years. If the analog sticks are getting erratic already, I'd check to see what options you have for returning/exchanging it.
