DS3 Controller - Vibration's go away after a while

Hi all,

I am using the Dual Shock 3 controller and while drifting the vibrations will stop completely after 2 or 3 seconds and they won't come back until I stop drifting and start again a few seconds later.

Is this normal or is there an issue with the controller? PS3 and controller are 1 day old, bought them brand new yesterday.
