Hello,

I've got a problem with my DS3: whenever I apply half-throttle on the joystick, the game registers it as full throttle, when pushing the joystick a quarter the way, the game tells it's half-throttle. It's the same with braking. That means it's near impossible to control the amount of input I need.

However, it's even worse with steering: the game doesn't register any steering even if I'm pressing the joystick to one side, unless I go past a certain spot, about 1/6 the way, then the game suddenly reacts to my input, very harshly, I must add.

So I'm not sure now whether it's my DS3's fault or something else. Any help, please? :)

Have you checked the controller sensitivity setting in game, I don't use a DS so I have never played with the sensitivity on it but if it is cranked up I suppose it may have an effect like that, could be an issue with the DS as well, I would try another one if there is one around you could use

I have tried the sensitivity settings, they didn't fix this. :(

I could try the old DS3, yeah, even though it's quite broken. If it'll be reacting better, I guess I've simply bought a bad DS3.

Dude! I have been having this same issue since GT5. I've been searching for others with the same concern but came up with nothing. Then I thought it was only me and probably just a controller problem so I let it be.

It is difficult playing by feel of the controller, thinking you have more travel but the game says you are full on, sort of like an opposite deadzone. I don't think my joystick regeisters full throttle at half input, more like 2/3 to 3/4. Sorry I don't have anything to help. Just a brother who understands.

Good to know I'm not alone with this problem, I hope we both can find a solution to it! I'll try the old DS3, if that works, it's sure the problem is with the new one. Maybe it's possible to calibrate DS3 joysticks?

Well before we diagnose the game as the issue.... Switch your accelerator and brakes to either L2/R2 (the only other controlled variable inputs the players can use) and then determine whether or not the issue still occurs...

If it is, it's just another $50 down the drain.. Not much one else can do other than purchase a new controller.

I'll try that out, thanks!

Don't forget to check the game's controller steering sensitivity settings too, just in case there is an unforseen side effect towards throttle as well.

I hope so too. I'm not sure that the joysticks can be calibrated though but it would be a lot cooler if they could. I might even try connecting a DS2 and see if there is a difference. Let me know if your old DS3 works.

@Swagger897
Thanks. I used that setting for a minute but didn't like it so much, fingers slipped off the buttons, but totally forgot about testing this issue this way.

I've tried that, it doesn't contribute to the problem.

I will. ;)

Well unless you have hyperhidrosis I never have "slipped" (well maybe a few) off that many times to cause issue..

It gives a more precise feel, and if we ever got a clutch option for controllers that would make it even better..

I just found myself having to adjust my fingers often. By the way, what is hyperhidrosis? Excessive sweating? I guess my explanation sounded more extreme than what was happening. Really it was more of a slipping than slipped as I squeezed the trigger. Maybe some grip tape will help.

Your DS3 is probably broken. It happened to me back in GT5 Prologue days. Bought a new one and problem solved.

I know my suggestion is not very helpful, but I don't think it's the game settings even if you have sensitivity at max.

Yeah... It was just a joke as a friend I know has that condition..

Anyways, I know that is a large complaint about the controllers but I normally keep my finger right where R/L-1 meet R /L-2 so it's in the little crevice and doesn't slip... Allows for faster response times due to a smaller movement for my fingers..

Or something scientific like..

I too had the same issue but it was with the R2 (accelerator) and was the funniest story to tell my mates...

Started out as my racing position (quite slouched but for a reason[i sit in like a F1 position where I see just only above me knees.. Very layer back. Watch the Nico Hulk video where he describes it])and I thought I was squeezing the trigger and crumpling my pants in between the plastic..

But it wasn't that and so then I thought it was turning off then back on... Wasn't that so then I tested the sensors and found there was no power going through the sensors (I hated electricity in physics so I don't remember what the device is called) and I had to get a new controller...

Everyone thought that I was brake checking them and I had to constantly tell them watch the replay and see that the accelerator goes from 100%-0. Miffed us all very well.

Yeah, it's worst when you use the triggers for gas and brake since the spring in those buttons lose tension very quickly. The analogs seem to last much longer. Still have my six year old Sixasis from my first PS3 and it works almost like new. the ones that they sell separately seem to be less lasting for some reason.

have you tried pushing the reset button on the underside of the controller then using USB to re sync the controller to the system?

Wait, what? A reset button? I have never heard of such a thing. I will look when I get home.

Yup... But only some versions have them on the exterior... Some are inside which is worthless to open..

Mine does the same thing.. also with the brakes .. sometimes i get resistance from the brake trigger and it's not applying brakes .. next time it'll be half brakes in the same position. It's done the same on 2 different games, 2 different consoles and 5 controllers. Inconsistency anyone?

Just tried it. Didn't help unfortunately. Thanks for the tip though. Trying out the L2/R2 brake/accel method again. Seems to be the same situation as with the sticks though but not as noticeable, yet.

@GTracer98 any luck with the old controller?

It was night so I didn't try yet, I will now. ;)

Sounds a bit off to be honest - I have two DS3s I switch between (use one while other is on charge) and they are pretty much identical in response - no deadzone issue in neutral and good linear actuation of steering/throttle to the edges using analogue sticks, triggers and even the X/O buttons (the buttons are pressure sensitive and with practice can be used as effectively as the triggers, which i prefer as the triggers give me claw hands!)

Sounds like your DS3 isn't working quite right - would get it swapped.

@turismoslayer I tried the old DS3 controller and it works correctly so I suppose it's the new DS3's fault. :(
Thanks. My original controller is what is giving me an issue. Maybe it's just too worn because the only use this controller gets is for Gran Turismo. Only game I play, at the moment. I'm going to try buying a new one and see what results I can get. Thanks again for the update.
