IMO, DSL SUCKS COMPARED TO CABLE.

Everything loads so much slower and my downloads are limited to like 100kb/sec. When i had cable everything loaded intantly and i had 600 kb/sec downloads. DSL SUXORS.

I'd be content with 60 kbps. Or even 6. (I get a paltry 2-3 right now)

I went to a website that told me how to edit my internet connection download speed, it doubled, wish i could find it again.

You got ripped by your ISP, SupraFly. You can get DSL up to 1.5 Mbps and even higher (if you're willing to pay for it).

Next time, read the fine print when you choose your service.

Very true. We pay the normal $50/month and I get a 1.1 Mbps connection. :D

Well, cable isn't an option for some people. First of all, you have to have a coxial cable TV line installed. And second, you can't get it everywhere.

And anything faster than 56K I'm happy with. Hell, I was happy with 128K ISDN and getting about 18kbps dowloads. I'll be on 512k soon, which will be about 50kbps downloads, which is a bonus.

Geez, stop whining.

I'm going to have a 3mbps connection for $50/month...but that's because my current dsl provider is upgrading services.

I know that SBC likes to lock down user's connections to 128 or 384 Kbps (because they think that the average user won't notice) even though the user is paying for higher speeds.

You might have to call up your ISP and demand (yes, I do mean *demand*) that your line will be unlocked.

hmm for 40:99 a month we get a 2.1-2.7mbps connection depending on the day so its kinda nice i cant believe 2 yrs ago i had a computer with 56k that idnt even work lmfao

$35, DSL, 1500/128 connection(about 184/16 transfer speed).

Superfly is giving you transfer rates, or download speeds, not connection speeds, which is what your ISP uses to tell you speeds. If you multiply the transfer by 8 you get the connection. Assuming he has a 200kbps transfer speed, we can say he is getting a 1600kbps connection, or 1.6mbps.

It can get rather confusing if you don't understand.

is that kiloBITS or kiloBYTES per second?
...from here on out, you guys gotta realize that the b in kbps is VERY annoying. kbps means kilobits per second, not kilobytes.
1byte=8bits

i say that cable is much faster, as ive used a 3.2mbps connection and got very fast 400K downloads, but on a 3.2mbps dsl line i got weak 150-190K downloads

Yes, I am reffering to Kbytes and Kbits. Didn't feel like using those, rather make an example.

There is obviously somethign messed up with your DSL line. It doesn't matter if it's cable or DSL, the speeds are rated the same. I recently re did all the phone wiring in my house and now I get exactly 1500 connection with my DSL. I would certainly fix that.

Also, have you tweaked your OS? Joey(my friend, but is also from GTP), recently got RoadRunner and was getting about 160-180kbps. I tweaked him up with latencies etc and now he gets about 280-300. That's certainly something else to think about.

If you would like any help tweaking your OS I'm not half bad in that stuff, so, drop me a PM or whatever.

We pay US$50 for Comcast Cable. I don't know what our speeds are supposed to be, though.

well it would kinda be useless to tweak my system considering its only seen 56ghey, and those speeds i was getting was on a neighbors line before they got cable, and had dsl origanely (damn rich people), but if i do get dsl or cable soon (and i might as im hopefully geting cable soon since i have found a job with my uncle where he'll pay me about 40$-50$ a week) i'll certainley ask you for help on tweeking it

Out here in Azusa we can get 2mbps cable for 29.99$ until april. Then it just goes up to 39.99$.

Needless to say, i don't have it, but a friend of mine does. I might be getting it soon.

We also have Comcast's $50 service(as far as I know). I also don't know what our speeds are supposed to be, but this is what I got:
