Well i dont know how to explaine it, but whenever I try to play a DVD on my computer, the program that tries to play it crashes/freezes. I have a DVD Burner, and it burns CDR's well and all....but when I try to burn DVD's or watch them problems happen. Is there a way to fix this? or should I fork out the cash and take it to Fry's or Best buy, please help. Thanks so much ahead of time.

Resurrection!

I have an DVD player in my computer which I bought with OEM packaging, so it came with no drivers. It won't play legally purchased DVDs...WMP 10 and RealPlayer say they can't find a DVD codec, and VLC just hangs. Any ideas?

Go to the website of your manufacturer. Download the drivers/install firmware update if any.

If that doesn't help, phone up customer support and see what they have to say.

It is a "AOpen Combo Drive Black ATAPI/E-IDE Model 91.5TD37.304 - OEM" I got from Newegg about a year and a half ago.

Their site is down :(

Just to bering closure to this thread, I was able to resolve this issue by doing this once AOpen's site was back up. With a firmware upgrade and a reboot, everything was fine.

A couple notes for anyone reading the thread:
1) AOpen Model 91.5TD37.304 is listed on their download site as a AOpen COM5232/AAH PRO. The model number is not listed anywhere.
2) Even though the firmware update software will not ask for a reboot, you need to reboot before using the drive after the upgrade.
3) Once the firmware was upgraded and the system rebooted, VLC would play the DVD.
