Thought I would share some pics of the cars at a local dyno day.

I've added the power figures. They are in Kilowats at the wheels. To calculate it out multiply the kw number by 1.34 to give you hp at the wheels.

I can post some numbers when I get home. I don't have access to the sheets, well I do but can't very well reprint them out without making trouble for Robin and Torque Performance.
I think the power board was complete but will have a look at the snap shot I took of it.

*updated* the listed. I've added the power figures. There were more cars but figured I show some of the different ones than what most would see in the States driving around.

Thanks:tup:. I'm surprised the Miata only put down 108RWHP with a supercharger. I'm also surprised at the Skylines, I thought they were supposed to be monsters. Anyway, nice pics and numbers, thanks for sharing.:D

The R32 non-GTR's were only 2 litre motors, and the R34 and R32 GTR's had only basic mods such as exhaust, pods, and ecu work nothing flash. Joe Kyle didn't show with his beast which normally throws over 420kw (563hp) at the wheels in a street driven GTR.

That's more like it! 👍

Here's some from our list. My local car club has to rank everything. This is just this year's car list. We make a new one every year, because you can't be on it if you no longer own the car. Same with track times. You have to own the car, and have ot have driven it yourself before it goes on the list. 👍

There are a number of evil GTR's being built right now, however most are going to be drag cars. The highest hp street legal car in NZ that I know of was when Croydon's now Drag GTR was still registered and producing over 1100hp at the wheels with nos system added. They are however now well over the 1200awhp mark. the best "estimate" I've hear of is just over 1,450hp crank hp but that isn't confirmed nor denied by them.

That's the top in the whole country? Wow.

The cars I listed are just the guys I hang out with on weekends. I wouldn't even know where to begin if we were talking top numbers in the country here. :scared:

well it's no surprise since it is NEW ZEALAND afterall. Not everyone over there is driving 1000hp street cars like we do here. :)

and Croydon's Drag GTR is badass :dopey:👍

 Good point. My mother and sister were born in Christchurch New Zealand though, so I know those guys can run circles around us when it comes to herding sheep! Woo!! :D

Actually, for those who've never seen it, it's actually pretty damn cool how they control the dogs with just a whistle. Hmmm..I think I've become off-topic just a TAD...

Unlike the states we have very strict and tight compliance laws here when it comes to the mechanicals of a car. If you're car produces over 20% more power from factory we have to get a low volumne mod cert. Your car is fully inspected by a tech to make sure it is safe, ie: more power, better brakes just to use an example. It all costs money. Then you have the noise factor, no way to get decent insurance coverage as insurance companies won't even look at a modified car unless you want to go through one particular one that cost so much per year it is nearly the price of a decent car!

There are a lot of cars making over 400hp at the wheels here. I've quite a few, and to give you an example unless your car "street" car is running 11's at the drags you are just another ran.

Keep in mind the total population of New Zealand is about the same as the city of Chicago, 4.2 million spread out with the main consintration being Auckland just on 2 million and Wellington around 1.4 million. The high performance car scene here isn't that big when compared to other developed nations though it is growing.

What do you mean? How do they know you've modified your car? How do they know how much HP you're putting out? Do they conduct a yearly dyno that they pay for themselves (that would be a sweet deal ). What are your inspection laws like? We don't even have to get ours instepcted at all anymore (In the state I'm in, at least). I took my cats off a year ago.

Sounds like the government isn't too keen on hot rodders down there. 👎

Actually, that sounds like more fun. It's a hell of a lot more enjoyable to be one of the few guys in town with a fast car, as opposed to "Oh...it's only pushing 500? That's cool I guess." :indiff:

There are many different ways to get caught or checked. We have to have a WOF every 6 months if your car is older than 4 years old. The check vertually all the mechanicals of a car both visually and various test. They also lift the bonnet (hood) during this. If they see the motor or the engine bay doesn't appear to be standard they then can say it needs a LVVMC (low volume vehicle mod cert). In other words if they see a big turbo, header, big exhaust etc. This is an assumption and that's all it takes. Once that happens you are entered into the computer data base and you have no choice but to get it done or you can't drive your car on the streets. The same can apply if you are pulled over at a police check point, which we have all the time here. Car gets green stickered and its all over rover.

Do keep in mind though for use to modify our cars to big power it is VERY expensive here. We are such a small market that the part markups are HUGE. To give you a small idea for me to do the following, forged pistons, carrillo conrods, arp rod bots, injectors, port the head, cams, springs, retainers, HKS 2530 turbos, exhaust header and the labour I wouldn't see any change out of $30k easy. The V8 boys have it even worse in overall price. Just a set of JE forged pistons are $2,000 alone. The rods are close to $5,000. Full head work is $5,000 +. As you can see it is outrageous in costs. Basiclly unless you are wealthy it is basic mods and do what you can in tuning. Most of us try and keep our cars looking as standard power wise as possible to avoid these problems.

On my way to work this morning I had a quick think about your posted power clubs. What is a lightening standard hp at the crank? To get 327hp at the wheels on the dyno I use here it would need to be making 402hp at the crank. I'm basing this on it being 2wd. Each dyno reads differently, by as much as 50hp depending on the software, and dyno style. It is hard to compare numbers. Off the top of my head I'll give you the numbers of some GTR's here that I know of and can verify their power at the wheels.

Wheel hp in no particular order. With GTR's add 24% for drive train loss for engine hp. I've seen these cars dyno at Torque or have been tuned by them over the past couple of years.

R32 GTR 563 hp
R32 GTR 744 hp
R33 GTR 488 hp
R34 GTR 421 hp
R32 GTR 660 hp
R32 GTR 605 hp
R32 GTR 582 hp
R32 GTR 350hp (mine)
R32 GTR 334 hp
R32 GTR 345 hp
R33 GTR 318 hp
R34 GTR 336 hp
R32 GTR 441 hp
R32 GTR 458 hp
R33 GTR 360 hp
R33 GTR 479 hp
R33 GTR 327 hp
R33 GTR 640 hp

These are the ones I know of. There are quite a number of Series 6 RX7's, Supra's, EVO's making 300+ whp and some over the 400hp mark. Most don't get published in our Performance Car Mag due to issues as stated previously.

I can't wait for the racing season to begin this coming summer. From what I've heard through the grape vine there should be another 3-5 GTR's making over 900hp but if they will be street driven remains to be seen.

Holy ****! 👎 👎 That's downright criminal! No WONDER you guys have such a hard time. I'm just sitting here stunned that they would go to all that trouble. What are they worried about? Why do they care if you have 20% more power, or 40%?? I never would have guessed it would be that bad. I totally feel for you guys.

Hmmm..I wonder....you think I'd draw any attention if I brought you some car parts in my luggage? "What? Oh THIS? Well, yes Sir, I know it LOOKS like a 500 cubic inch V8, but it's an optical illusion. It's actually a waterfountain. I'm trying to sell it to gear heads that work at garages". 💡

Yup, that's just about right on. The Ford SVT Lightning is a RWD automatic truck. It is listed at 385hp/450tq at the flywheel from the factory. It's likely to be like my SVT Cobra though: We're listed at 390hp/390tq at the flywheel from the factory, but stock cobra's are putting down anywhere from 360-380 at the wheels. Ford underrated the hp, and actual output is more like 425 flywheel hp stock. My car (the weaker of the two Cobra's on the list I posted) only has $800 worth of mods on it: Mufflers, Air Filter, Chip, and a smaller SC pulley. We generally see 15% DT loss on average with 2WD vehicles here.
