DYSAGT Awards 2008

Hello guys, as you may or may not know, we thought it was about time we had some Awards for the 'Did You See Anything Good Today?" car spotting thread. We need to find a way to run categories fairly, for each continent. Running some awards for countries, continents, some marques (e.g. best ferrari), and even some international awards such as spot / spotter of the year.

So, let us know what categories you think we should run.

Currently, the obvious ones:
Overall Spot Of The year
Overall Spotter Of The Year

Spot of the year : Europe, Americas, Asia + Oceania.
Spotter Of The Year: Europe, Americas, Asia + Oceania

Best Spot of a: Ferrari, lamborghini, etc.

Give us your ideas :)

Great you made the thread 👍! I think we need to break a lot of the categories down by area in which you live. As I said in the social group, seeing a Nissan Skyline is much rarer in N.America then in Japan. I also think we need some silly categories as well just for fun.

Most unusual car: Europe, Americas, Asia + Oceania
Rarest car: Europe, Americas, Asia + Oceania
Most expensive spot: Europe, Americas, Asia + Oceania
Best car spotting story: Europe, Americas, Asia + Oceania
The People's Choice Spot of the Year: Europe, Americas, Asia + Oceania

Worst park job by an exotic car.
Ugliest colour of a exotic.
Best number plate/car combo.
"You spotted that why?"

So, are these awards for photos that have already been taken or for the coming year?

Based on what Alex and I discussed earlier I would assume it's over the course of this past year.

Yeah, All spots since january 1st, 2008.

I agree, joey, I like the categories you nominated.

I haven't really contributed to the thread as much since I don't have a freaking camera...... :grumpy: Hopefully when my brother gets a new phone, he would give me his older camera phone to me and I could start taking pictures again..... :) Anyway, maybe there could be a couple of awards that could be mentioned:

  • Most artistic shot (unedited of course)
  • Best "blurred" shots
  • Most unexpected shots (might be subjective)
  • Best car + scenery shots

Hope that would help a bit. :)

How is this gonna work,do we have to post our pics for the awards here or are the members of GTP gonna chose the pics for the awards?
Not that I think that I have a chance to win something.:)

This is just deciding categories, afterwards Joey D and I will agree on a way in which the actual nominations can be made.

I won something. :dopey:
Why me?

Because you relentlessly post boring spots, not exciting, not rare, insignificant or otherwise questionably shared. This is despite innumerable complaints, reminders, explanations and directives to post less Carreras and stock Cayenne V6's.

Yes, but lately, I'm sure a lot of his latest shots easily level himself out. He may have seen some cars we considering boring or such, but he has seen a lot of cars many of us would have loved to have caught in person.

We might put a couple of old categories, but let's be honest you post about 45 per day!

You can expect to see some classic categories in the voting :)👍

Agreed.

I know, we might as well have 'best set of 2 zonda f's and a silver ccx' spotted as a category :sly:
[/shamelessselfplugging]

Although to be fair only the red F coupe should really count, as the other 2 were in A parking area reserved for supercars

Heh, no one can blame him for that. I mean this is Serge were talking about here, the DYSAGT thread wouldn't be the same without him. :nervous:

Besides, some of his spots are better than others. I mean he spots the new Ford Focus, the new Renault Megane and whatnot before they even officially released it worldwide...... :D

If we are going to have a classic category I would like it won by one that isn't a hunk of junk on the streets. There are plenty of classics that have been spotted that are in good condition.

Thanks guys. :)👍

Serge also spotted something that SHOULD NOT have been anywhere near him, namely that old Chevy Celebrity.

I didn't want to be rude
But keep the categories coming guys :)

Why's everyone dissing everyone else? Cano's 'broken bits' shots are great. I'd love to see some old US muscle in this part of the world, and while Serge does post too many 911's, Cayennes, Caymans and Boxs... (yawn) of which I probably see collectively around 30 a day he's posted some real gems too - remember the Morgan, Testarossa, E-Type? All well-worthy of their place in the thread, and Serge contributes almost every day too which basically makes the thread a sticky.

Anyhoo, back on topic I nominate the following categories...

- Rarest car (Total production number)
- Best classic spot 1950-1970
- Rarest colour on an exotic
- Best 'first of the thread' spot
- Best photo (Give exigeracer the award already!)
- Best of the thread (everyone's vote on the best car seen in '08)

I dont always post classics as hunks of junk, I have also some old cars in good condition, and many people here have posted incredible old cars but no one but me remembers.

Doug's bunch of 34 Packards for example would take the prize for best classic in the thread freaking hands down, or how about Exige's last-week Packard Clipper (which would also take the best picture of the thread freaking hands down). I also have some that I have not posted, that are awesomely well preserved.

also, I'm not the only one that has posted abandoned cars. Serge and even Rue have posted old abandoned stuff, but an "abandoned" category would be totally unfair as I would totally win it hands down, hahaha.

Still, old cars have a place in here, and I seriously nominate a category for each decade.
1921-1930
1931-1940
1941-1950
1951-1960
1961-1970
1971-1980
1981-1990
1991-2000
2000-present.

also, best marque spot.

best ferrari
best Lambo
best Chevy
best Pontiac
best Peugeot
et all.

Im also all for the categories that Rue mentioned, except the colour one, but oh well...

Also, best convertible, best truck, best wagon, best hardtop, best four door, and of course, best modified car of the year.maybe even best off roadder.

also, the worse spot of the year.
