Have many of you tried it? On the G25 you can set the red buttons to be your e-brake, and in some situations it works pretty good. The first corner of London is one example. I was trying to set a time there just now in the Amuse car (using lamer standard, I admit) and did enough for now not using any e-brake, but some of the faster replays show it being used. Sometimes a lot! It can be used like.. like a condiment, to add that little bit of technique. Some of these characters use it like drinking ketchup right out of the bottle :-)

Also, the wall penalties could stand to be a bit more sensitive. Theres nothing wrong with a gentle brush or a passing glance if things go south during a lap, but some drivers use the wallls as an active braking technique! No shame and no class. Their car should explode if it hits the walls past a certain force :-) No wait, thats a different game..

LOL... yeah the "wall riders," one of the many plagues of GT.... Oh well you will discover more and more stuff like this as you play ;)

as for the e-brake... I honestly have not honed that skill yet.... its quite dangerous if you use it that tad bit to much ... lol but I think if used properly it could be useful

When I first starting playing GT5P on standard with a pad I used the e-brake all the time on certain corners and to get out of trouble. with some practice it is actually relatively easy to control on standard.

Now I am playing on professional with a g25 and I don't use it at all, because I can't control it and I believe that you can go faster without using it. Oh, and it is hard to locate that button on the wheel when you need, especially when cornering.

That said it is a lot of fun once you get it down.

I use the E-Brake all the time, it sometimes works well if you accidently get your car in a massive slide in the S-bends at Suzuka. As Rob above said, it's great fun to hold a nice slide through a corner as well. I sometimes even hold the E-Brake down for some more fun, and you can pull awesome 180's too.

Real drivers don't e-brake during races, so why would I?
...maybe because GT5p isn't a real sim?

It's a game, where sadly the handbrake can gain you an advantage.

I do though, only use it only if I have messed up...it's a get-out clause :)

if u lot are talking about the Handbrake I use it in FF car on sharpe coners.

Handbrake isn't the best term, though, since some cars have it on the ground. And well, if you use your hand to apply that, then you're crazy...

lmao
i just pictured someone trying to do that...

i havent really used it, but maybe i should give it a try..

im sorry, but e(-emergency)brake IS the right term??....so when you are on a highway and you have to make an emergency stop, you use that?????????? ->>you shouldn't man!!!!..........

in holland we also call it a handbrake, for sure not(!)an emergency brake....:)

as for rally driving, yes i offcourse use it ...but thats another story....

spyrrari.

Are you for real??

Dude, U sound like you need reminding "Its a game"

Oh and your not a race driver, your a gamer lol

I shall reword: I prefer racing as I would race if it was for real. No punting, no using the handbrake, etc.

I don't see what the reason was for you, GTouche, to respond in this rude manner.
I'm very aware that it's a game, i'm very aware of the differences between real racing and console racing.

I'm more race driver than gamer 👍.

I called it 'e-brake tapping' because in the controller setup menu in the game its called e-brake. Plus the right way to use it is to quickly tap it, otherwise it kills your revs.

And another thing: the fastest way to drive these street cars fast iinto a tight corner is to initiate some amount of oversteer or other. The fastest guys drive many cars in almost a rally style anyway, so I dont think using the e-brake represents an insult to the sim-ish-ness of GT. As slow as most of the cars are I'm glad theres SOME way to make them corner sharper. No word yet if the Formula One car in the game can corner better with the e-brake :-)

For what its worth though, and I'm only speaking for London here, a well placed e-brake tap with some cars is hands down faster than not using it at all. If you dont think so hop in the Amuse and give it a try yourself. What bothers some guys is the thought that using the e-brake opens the floodgate of using any old damn thing to make a better time, like bouncing off the walls, etc.

One last point: have you experimented with bouncing off the rev limiter when needing to brake a lot for a corner (London 1, for example?) Many guys do that one too. What I mean is, they make their downshifts all at once instead of waiting for the revs to match, and the result is bouncing off the rev limiter. I dont do it myself but I see a lot of that.

I think it's true name is ''parking brake''.

All in favour say ''purple monkey dishwasher''.

I've noticed this, I wondered if it was to get all the shifts out of the way so they could concentrate on getting the corner perfect or if it actually slowed them quicker.

I love that phrase :P

Exactly! The point is to find out what the game, and each car, 'rewards you' for. A guy's not going to get anywhere if he expects fast times to come by making the car conform to him. On the whole I like the way the game plays. My question at the moment concerns the entry into the last corner(s) at London! The fastest times seem to come by braking and turning in REALLY late, and sliding the rear, but it doesnt make sense to me. I think there might be some special proximity power zone up there by the wall (?!) that boosts the cars out of that right hander a little better than normal. Its still a headscratcher for me.

:-)
