Hello, i am not a car buff i am a bike fan :). But i have come up with an idea for you E Type V12 fans.You will probably have to change the placement of the engine mountings to fit it.Why not fit an engine from the 6.0ltr XJS and a 5 or 6 speed manual gearbox in it plus diffs etc as well would need to go in.You could modify the engine etc to whatever spec you want then.Plus power steering as well.What do you think ?.Ok the car wouldn't be original but would be more reliable.And could cost a fair bit of money though but would it be worth it ?.

I'm not actually sure fitting the engine from the later XJS would make it more reliable, as you'd have to fit all the electronics too and that was one of the XJS's major weak spots.

That, and the block is largely the same between E-Type V12 and XJS. It's inherently a fairly reliable engine, spoiled by poor electrics.

A better conversion for me would be a V12 from a Series 3 E-Type into the prettier Series 1 or 2 bodies - but then, the inline-six is a fantastic engine as it is, so the V12 doesn't offer any more kudos for me personally. Would probably harm the car's balance as well as I suspect it's a fair chunk heavier than the six.

Anyway, the expensive part isn't sourcing a drivetrain, it's buying an E-Type in the first place these days.
 
You would be better off replacing the 4 carb setup with a 6 double barrel Weber setup. This will get you into the 6.0 power range. As HFS said, the electronics are nothing to be proud of on the later model V12's. And as for the manual swap. Keep the 4 speed manual. 145km/h in second gear. FTW.
 
There is one for sale in the UK for 19,000GBP with 95,000 miles on ( coupe') don't know condition though.There is a company called Knowles Wilkins Engineering that make Jags reliable but are in the UK.Sorry it's for sale at £19,000GBP and has had a new engine at 56k miles.

I don't believe that there's a Jaguar E-Type for sale for £20,000. Clarification please, as that's cheaper than a Toyota 86. Anybody who would sell one for that cheap is either a scam artist or completely insane.

Not necessarily. It's quite possible to get Series III models for that sort of money, but they aren't the most desirable of XK-Es.
 
Oh my. E-Types certainly have become expensive in the last 10 years.
I can remember that a prestine Series 1 or 1,5 went for max €70000. And that was either a original almost no milage car or nut and bolt resto. They now go for well over 100k. Which is, seeing that they are not actually rare, ludicrous.
 
I always hated the look of the V12 E types, such a pretty car ruined by an oversized grille.
 
They should've made a new V12 E-Type series 4, and taken inspiration from BMW's M73 engine plus the S1 E -Type's size.Obviously make it outlandish and loud so aliens can hear it.Maybe fit a manual gearbox or a flappy paddle gearbox to it.Make a mammoth 7.7ltr quad cam, 5 valve per cylinder v12 too.The F-Type is an F-Type, it's not an E-Type.It also needs independant, electronic coil over suspension with gen 2 ceramic brakes.
