In the years that they did this poll, no company has dared to repeat as the winners of Consumerist's "Golden Poo" trophy. This year, however, we will have a rematch of the 2012 finals where newcomer EA took on tournament favorite Bank of America(who is in the finals for the third consecutive time).

Voting ends at 11:59PM EDT Tonight(April 8).

This is a tough one, but I'll go with Bank of America.

Nearly causing total economic collapse is worse than a video game publisher who is controlled purely by profit.

Gotta love EA blaming this on their support of gays and lesbians.

They may win this award for as long as they exist

So EA won again. Only thing of note is that now that are claiming that it's because people are homophobic.

inb4 a bunch of people complain that the meaningless joke poll was "won" by the "wrong" company.

It does make me laugh when they explain their situation by basically saying "Hey, nothing wrong with us, it's everyone elses' fault!", just like their response to Medal of Honour: Warfighter. I believe they were saying something like "Well this is a bit unfair because we ripped off the best selling first person shooter to a tee and still get panned, so... It's not our fault". Conveniently glazing over Real Racing 3 (aka Free2Pocalypse (total cost of everything in the game: $>500)), the aforementioned Medal of Honour disaster - the licensed real life weapons in particular - and, of course, Sim City. And the Mass Effect 3 ending thing, though that was a while ago. And the banning of players from all of their Origin games for using bad language on Battlelog. And the Origin exploit (though Steam had a similar one). And so on.

But this award isn't about what they actually do as a company, is it? I've never looked into it properly so the sensationalist headlines are kind of all I have to go on.

I can't stop laughing. I still can't believe they blamed everyone else for their problems but they did not look at themselves and think "Maybe we are doing something wrong."

EDIT: Tree'd by neema

Just as I've said last year: them winning this award in the face of companies that legitimately do worse than them is, in a word, fantastic.

It is about what they did as a company. Take, for example, UPS throwing a fragile package over your fence during Christmas time, or for an international flare, IKEA taking something off the menu in Europe because it contains something that was not safe for human consumption(to put it nicely) because the supplier was trying to save a buck. Consumerist is a site that would report such things of the fate of bad customer service.

+1 Quadrillion (if that exists)

They are the cancer of the gaming industry. They seriously need to be shutdown before they acquire MORE businesses that were perfectly fine on their own. Little indie companies get attacked by EA to make their game. Almost happened to Mojang (Who made Minecraft) but Notch said no-way.

At onetime EA was a great company. They built games through passion. You could see the pride in their work, back in their infancy. Then something happened, "CAPITALISM", and I don't mean the capital button either (lol)

The rest is what happens when the all mighty buck speaks. To no fault of their own, they were just following investors request, "make money" and lots of it. I don't see the problem, it's the great "American Dream" {sarcasm}

I thought there wasn't a thread dissing EA, and then I found this. 👍

First up, I have to congratulate EA for winning the title of "Worst Company in America" for the second time running. Well deserved win.

Now, on to what EA did to make me mad:
1. Sell incomplete games and charge extra for DLCs and stuff but I guess that's the trend in the gaming industry nowadays.

2. Buy up smaller game companies and through their 'excellent' management and decision making, kill them off. Or cause them to die eventually.
- Westwood Studios was one example. I can only imagine what they could've achieved if they weren't closed. :(
- And I just recently found out that Playfish (which was also acquired by EA) is shutting down most if not all of it's Facebook games. Restaurant City had already been shut down, and now Pet Society is ready to go on June 14th. :(

Their advice for people who had spent real cash buying in game items.
What if I have an existing balance of Pet Society Cash in Pet Society on Facebook?

Players are encouraged to spend their remaining balance of Pet Society Cash in Pet Society before the game is retired on June 14th. As of that date, any remaining Pet Society Cash left in the game will be invalid.

What if I have a Playfish cash card I have not redeemed?

Players are encouraged to redeem and spend their Playfish cash cards before the game is retired on June 14th. After that date, you will need to contact customer service regarding your Playfish cash cards.
Please go to Help.ea.com and select Contact Us to contact Customer Service.
"Yeah, you gotta spend whatever cash you have left to buy stuff on this game which we're gonna shut down anyways. So enjoy it while it lasts because we don't even care."

I never spent any real money on in game items but what about the people who did? Well, too bad.

3. I'm sure there are many, many more reasons why they're so bad as a company but that's all I have.

I've never had this much hatred for a company before. Even trumping my hate for Apple. :sly:

In the end, I hope EA would continue to win the golden poop award in years to come. Until they decide to make a change, which I doubt they would. So good luck to them on next year's award. Let's get that hat-trick!

For those that question who won and why, here's the clarification again on the WCIA poll

"we’d like to take a moment to explain that our “Worst Company in America” contest exists within the context of this website, which is about consumers and their relationship to the marketplace and to businesses. Just to be clear: The point of this contest, now in its 8th year, is to enable consumers to send a message to a company that provides goods or services to them. Winning this contest means your customers are trying to tell you something. And that something is that you, out of all the companies, most deserve a plastic poop trophy."

Brand New Logo. 👍

I don't understand the homophobic angle, 'cause there aren't that many EA games that have homosexual stuff in them. I mean, you have The Sims and Mass Effect 2 & 3 ('cause ME1 wasn't ever published by EA). And, in all of them, you don't have to. In fact, in The Sims, you pretty much have to go looking for a homosexual relationship. And, really, same for the Mass Effect games. Yeah, I'm sorry, 5 games out of the thousands you've make a valid point for people saying you're terrible.
