Did you notice that the PS2 helps you in braking ? when using manual gear shift mode (I didn't try in auto mode), you have an indicator in the lower part of your screen showing your current gear - everybody knows that - and when approaching a corner the gear you should use for it...but it gives you more ! When approaching the corner you will at a moment see that second figure start flashing. This is the moment the PS2 advises you to start braking. Also, this braking point will adjust automatically depending on your settings but also tyres wear. For strong brakings (at the end of the straight in Tokyo) I keep this number "in the corner of my eye" and it's a great help for safe braking, even though with a light car you can save a few tenths of seconds by braking a little bit later than indicated and sometimes keeping one gear higher than specified.
