Ebay P&P 3x for 3 items

I have very limited experience with Ebay.

I recently bought 3 items from a HK based power seller at the same time.

I saw two items I wanted and each carried a USD 28 P&P charge. I tried to negotiate one fee for P&P. He insisted he couldnt do that. He was willing to give me a USD 9 discount. Initially I paid for 2 items + 2x USD28 via Paypal. Upon visiting his "shop"again I saw another item, previously not in his shop and contcted him again. He offered me free upgrade to express service which I foolishly took for No P&P charge for the 3rd item. That was not the case. In the end I paid him for 3 items + 3x USD 28 P&P minus 9 USD discount. The 3 items weigh guestimate less than 1 kg. HK Postoffice charges approx 15 USD for 1 KG overseas airmail package.

I wanted the items so I'm not moaning about the price but....

Question: Why would a buyer insist he cannot combine the 3 items in to one package and charge me for reasonable P & P.
Is he simply trying to make more profit, is it an Ebay trick or what ?

Did it all come n the one package when you recieve it in the end?
That seems a bit rubbish tbh.

eBay doesn't charge final value fees on postage. Many of the rock-bottom sellers inflate the postage costs as profit.

Yeah, sometimes it's crazy, and it lures buyers who don't read everything in.

I've seen people selling brand new iPhones and the like for $9, then put, quite clearly postage at $150, but some people just impulse click and end up getting suckered in.
