I've just ordered an item of clothing from ebay. I ordered it on sunday and its now tuesday, I dont expect it to be here already but I was just wondering how reliable ebay is.

I mean has anyone ordered something and it not turn up, or ordered a coat and got a CD !!!

Let me know what you think of ebay and when (hopefully I will!!) my item arrives I will share my thoughs as well for anyone else thinking of using ebay.

Yeah I got a Nokia 3310 Red Bull cover through it, I sent the person a cheque because I don't like PayPal and I got the cover in several days. Haven't bought anything else yet.

I'm off to Ebay now.

I have a friend who's ordered loads of stuff from eBay with no problems. He even bought an iPod from america. I don't use it because i've heard so many people who haven't got what they wanted.

I set up the paypal thing and used my card to pay for it. It seemed quite secure though and it was free to pay that way.

Can I ask why you didnt want to use the paypal option ??

Does pay pal make your Credit card number unviewable or how do they work too?

I presume paypal would either *ta* your credit card out or just have the last 4 digits there, but theres no need for the other used to see your card number I dont think as the cash just goes straight to their account ???

Err I'm only 16 and sorting out the compatibility of different cards is a right pain in the ass so I just use cheque. It also means I get an adress to send it to, which somehow makes me feel less nervous.

I've bought and sold on eBay. All I can say as a buyer is that you should read through the feedback on the seller. As a seller, make sure you have the money before dispatching the goods.

The seller has the power in eBay transactions.

PayPal conceals your credit card number from the receipient of the money. You pay PayPal by credit card. They transfer the money into your PayPal account, and from there to the recipient's PayPal account. That person can then withdraw the money into their bank account.

At no point are account details shared.

ebay is only as reliable as its members....

maybe your cheque hasnt cleared yet and they are waiting for that before they despatch...
i have bought laptops and book off ebay i only use users with good ratings..i did send cash to someone who kept it and never gave me the item despite my frantic emails...

you should have the members email addy...get writing..

for the more expensive stuff, if you don't trust the seller, use an escrow service. It'll cost you a bit more but it would ensure that you get your item.

I might sell some of my used textbooks on there if only to get $20 or 30 into a paypal account so I can buy a lifetime subscription to a game I used to play obsessively till they made it p2p.

As was stated above, read the seller's feedback. That should tell you all you need to know.

Well I had a good look through all the feedback and there were no negative points just positive. I'm always really skeptical and think that they've just got their mates to subscribe then buy something and then leave a glory account on the feedback !!

Anyway - I got home today and in the post I found a card that tells me the postman (or whoever delivered the package) has been and has left a package in the greenhouse - So I get all excited and think its here but I go to the greenhouse to find a package for my Mum !!! Typical !!!

It all depends on the member's way of posting the package, which service he uses, and of course, how far away from you he is. Some postage services take much more time than others, while some are quite quick (UPS, Fedex, etc...)

You dont need a credit card for paypal you can do it just through your bank account.
