  When i bought my ps2 i purchased the 2 year warranty. Now i want the new slim version and therefore i need break mine. Does anyone know if i will be entitled to the new slim one or will they give the big one? by the way any suggestions on how i to break it easily and not to messy? someone suggested 10 seconds in the microwave but that may cause an electrical fire?

I suggest you keep the old version. The new one has had major laser disc problems. And some of the games seem to be having problems on it.

The old ones however, will work fine, if you keep them in good shape. Mine is 4 years old now, and runs like a brand new Lamborghini. OK, maybe not like a Lamborghini, but you get the idea. :)

I haven't figured that out yet.. why someone would want to get rid of a perfectly good PS2 just to get another one. The "new" PS2 is no different.. if you want something different, put the thing in a paper bag while you play. Because that's as much difference as there is between the old and new PS2's.

LOL funny. the thing is im going to be modding my ps2 so the ebgame warranty will be voided. i might as well get a fresh new model before i void the warranty by modding it. get me?

what do you mean its cheap and shoddy? are you referring to what the other member said about the slim version being defective? can you tell me where you read this info? because ill just ask ebgames to give me a new big version.

It's all over the IGN forums especially, and pretty much any general PS2 forum, as I understand it. Apparently, quite a few of the new PS2's broke within a few days/weeks of their purchase. Sent back to Sony for replacement, not repair.

Basically, if your PS2 is working, there's no reason whatsoever to get a new one. If it ain't broke, don't fix it.

isnt the pstwo too slim to chip anyway?

get the new pstwo if you want it that bad....just dont come and ***** about it on the boards. it's your problem, not ours.

where did you get info from? if i do get the slim one, i will be adding a modchip to play gt4 jpn.

So rather than know what the hell you're doing in the game, you want to mod your brand new system, thereby voiding it's warranty, because you can't wait a couple more months for GT4 to come out. Wow, that sounds smart

There are fixes for the slim PS2s :) Although nothing is guaranteed to be 100% safe, those fixes do work and so far there hasn't been reports of PS2s dying after applying the fixes.

And there are a few modchips out there for V12 (slim PS2). If you really are planning on getting a slim PS2 modded then make sure the installer installs the fixes too.
