Last night (29.12.2003) Edinburgh had a torchlight parade. It's something to do with the Vikings, I think. Anyway, I took digicam and SLR plus tripod out, and here are some of the selected results.
If the film pics are any good, when they're developed I'll put some up here too.
Every year there's a ferris wheel just off one of the central streets. Here it is:
They've built a temporary fun fair on the road that goes down behind the headquarters of the Bank of Scotland. If you check the angle of the road, you'll understand why I won't be going on any of the rides! The Bank of Scotland is the multicoloured building. It's usually illuminated in plain white, but they've gone all Christmassy this year.
There's also a large park, between Edinburgh Castle and the main street, and there's usually an ice rink in there over Christmas:

And here's a shot of the guys with torches. Unfortunately, the street lighting was so poor, you can't see them without flash, but the flash shots weren't great either, so here's a flaming one for you:
After the "official" torchbearers, members of the general public can process behind. Here's a pic (that looks like it came out of a recent Orange Photo Messaging Ad) of people walking along the street. You can see the Bank of Scotland and the Castle in the background. Funny, I figured out how to do slow-sync flash on the camera, but not rear-curtain. Need to go back to the manual, I think...
At the end of the procession, everyone collects together...
... and they go up to Calton Hill (scene of Edinburgh's Folly/Edinburgh's Disgrace), where there are fireworks. Here's the top of the monument at the top of Calton Hill:
So, there you go. Hope you like them. Anyone who thought that buying a metal-bodied camera, and then taking it out, bare-handed, in temperatures of minus-a-lot, was a good idea, was wrong. Brrr!!
