Electricity question.

Hi all,

I'm going to a camp site in a couple of months. Apparently the site can provide us a spot with a 6 amp electricity point.

I have no idea what that can power!

Will it struggle to power a phone charger or can i set up a home cinema system in my tent?!!!

Sorry I can't help you out with your question, but it does leave me with a question. Why are you staying in a tent for a few months?
 
The better question is whether it comes with a standard 3-prong socket or the "camping" style 2 prong.

Now, when we go in the caravan we can power a portable TV, charge phones and power the fridge off the mains power provided. And from what I've seen of camp sites, it's all pretty standard stuff.

The question is, are you going to a "pre-prepared" camp site with a tent and accesories pre-erected or are you going old-school with your own tent etc?
 
Keep in mind that I'm talking about the 120v power we have in the US. A normal circuit is 20 amps which can handle a TV, receiver, PS3, medical equipment, etc. without any issues. The 6 amps you'll have will take care of your cell charger, but I'd leave the audio equipment at home.

Just out of curiosity, what are you looking to bring with you?
 
I am confused sorry, I don't remember much about electricity and what I do know was learnt at school. The best advice I can give you is to ask the site, if they gave you the info surely they could also advise on what use it has. Oh and Stevisiov he said he was going in a couple of months, not staying for a couple of months.

Phone charger, PSP charger. We are thinking about a laptop but not sure.

Although with girls, who knows. Hair dryer, straighteners etc!!
 
Hair dryers and straighteners never go down well on campsites, they are power hungry monsters.
 
If it's ~220V like Google says, then at 6 amps you'll be able to use 1320 watts. Compare it to the wattage on your hair dryer and home audio equipment. You'll more than likely go over on that stuff, but you should be fine with chargers, a computer, television, or something similar.
 
Yeah, basic electronics is OK: chargers, laptop, small TV, coffee maker. Hair dryer is too much.

Yeah, old school is where you eat cold lunch meats (if you're not hunting) and make your own fire from wood you find. No propane grill or anything, just a pot a pan and a fire. Tent, of course.

C'mon seriously... Noone said "Camcorder".

With a 6 amp circuit, you should be able to power a small TV, camcorder, Cell Charger, Laptop or an ice maker. Not all at the same time. At night, it should easily handle 4 cell phones, a small light and a clock. Maybe a Hair Dryer in the morning, but I'm guessing that if you have power at your site, there are coin operated bath/showers and a place to change/prepare for the day.
