I'm honestly surprised Bioware lasted as long as it did with the amount of flops and decision making happening over there under EA.

I loved Mass effect and some Dragon Age, sadly the last one of each titles wasnt really good. I was waiting for ME5 tho, so that sucks but there's a game that is like ME releasing soon so I'll try that I guess.

Feels like a good time to revisit the greatest RPG

I do have Mass Effect Legendary Edition, will give it a proper go one of these years. Hopefully the final Jedi game makes it out okay, don't hold out much hope for Fight Night and the new Battlefront under this version of EA. Codemasters are hopefully ok even though they will be making F1 games until the end of time now. Any tiny hope of a NFS revival is pretty much dead as well.

Genuinely sad about this. The Mass Effect trilogy is up there on my list of greatest games of all time, perhaps even #1. I even liked Andromeda! I remember renting ME1 from Blockbuster (that's an old sentence ) for the first time and thinking it was the sci-fi game I've been waiting for. The music, the characters the art style and storytelling perfection. My buddy and I even went to a game convention in Boston just to hear the developers and voice actors talk about ME2 at the time.

Mass Effect 4 probably wasn't necessary but I was still eager to revisit the world and see all the characters one last time. :(

I played KotOR many years after Mass Effect and was blown away by the similarities of the games. I won't get into details but you will see playing Mass Effect (if you do) what I mean.

Exodus is the Mass Effect spiritual successor coming out next year, developed by Hasbro/Wizards of the Coast.

Honestly it's probably more of a true Mass Effect game than ME5 would have ever been, this having many veterans of Mass Effect and BioWare as part of the development team. The highlight of the dev team for me is that it's being written by Drew Karpyshyn, who was the writer of ME1 and 2. So the story is in very capable and skilled hands, and will probably be much better than whatever would have happened in ME5 anyways.

(Also on the book side of the expanded universe for Exodus they pulled Peter F. Hamilton to write two novels, and I love his Commonwealth Saga series.)

Not every franchise needs to continue forever, and I think the Mass Effect story was wrapped up mostly ok by the end of ME3. I don't need to see a "big new threat in the rebuilding galaxy" plotline personally.

I feel bad for all of the BioWare staff who got laid off, but yeah they were definitely smoking something when they made Veilguard. Even outside of bigoted circles I don't know a single person who enjoyed that game.

I hope ea crashes and burns going forward only doing games for ball and gun gamers. Yeah Bioware may have been heading downhill, but how much of that was truly Bioware and not ea pushing them to make games that don't fit their style? I know Anthem was kinda forced into being a live service, Veilguard was going to be a live service game before being switched to a regular single player game. I do wonder what happened behind closed doors.

It was mentioned on social media in the last couple of days that there was a ME5 trailer ready to go, and looks like someone at Bioware leaked it on the way out the door. Hero.
Looks like it would have been pretty interesting story wise, not much shown in the video (obviously) but looks like a bounty hunter kinda plot going on. Though, I thought it was going to be a continuation of the Shepherd story (as in, he/she would be main character and the game titled Mass Effect 4) since they added a new, after-credits end scene to the Legendary Edition.

So many questions that will go unanswered. Still, one way or another it would have been good to play one more game.

Hoping the upcoming Exodus fills the void. Does look very similar, as expected with ex-Bioware people.
