ELP!!! ram issues = Dire Straits

ello


i got this pile of s**t sat in front of me that won't do anythign i ask it to within ten mins, im working with this


1600 amd athlon
128sd ram - thats right 128
compaq pressario - plenty of years old

recently upgraded graphics to 256mb and sata hdd

i just got 2x256 chips of pc 133 sd ram to improve comp

access denied!

ELP!!!

if i put both chips in nothign happens - it doesnt boot,

if i put one chip in with the original 128 chip it boots but doesnt recognise the other chip and say theres a mem error on boot up

i'm pc literate but coming to the end of my tether with this thing - can someone please help???

i've checked web plenty and as far as i can see it should all be compatible and everything (bless google)

if anyones got any ideas you'll have my eternal gratitude, if someone knows what i can do to get it working you'll have my eternal love! :)

Can you get to the BIOS? Maybe you should make the CAS settings a bit higher and see if that helps.

Are you sure the new ram is compatible with your machine?

Have you got access to another machine? If so, download memtest and create a bootable floppy.
 
If you can access the BIOS, you may want to try increasing the RAM voltage (.1v at a time, mind you). My PC booted fine with a 1GB Patriot eXtreme Performance DDR2-800 module, but when I added the second one it needed the RAM voltage increased by .1v to boot.
