Is there any way to include the post content when the notification is set to 'instant email notification'? On other forums I get sent an email when there is a new post and can read the post content on my email instead of having to log in to the forums.

Yes, but I removed the feature for several reasons:
  1. I'd like for you to come back to the site. Hopefully, while they're here, more casual visitors will be inspired to click around and will have even more opportunities to become engaged in the community.
  2. I personally receive all messages that are sent to the email address used to send out forum notifications, and literally 20 or 30 people per day would reply emails which included the contents of the message. Despite an all-caps warning, they didn't seem to understand they were receiving a notification about what was being posted, and were writing a personal reply to the individual message and, presumably, expecting it to be either posted to the forums or sent directly to the other user.
  3. The forum only notifies you of the first new post in a thread, and thus only includes the first message posted after you left. Considering the quick pace topics can move, that one single post may not be an accurate reflection of what is going on in the topic. Considering so many people replied directly to these emails, I fear they may also not expect this behavior (instead expecting all replies will be sent to them), and may assume no one else has replied to their comments.

1. Each to their own I suppose. For an established site such as this I'm surprised you feel the need to deliberately force people back to the site in that way but that's your call. In my experience of other sites, including having moderator rights on EA forums, people will go back to the forum anyway when they have time and it's just annoying when you click to see a reply to a message that's not a constructive reply. More so when you're viewing forums from somewhere such as at work, looking at emails is fine but viewing forums every 10 mins when there's a reply to a post isn't as easy to get away with.

2. I suppose you will always get people like that.

3. On other sites you can set it such that you are sent an email once until you next view the forums or sent an email for every single reply.

I was only asking cause I'm a pretty experienced forum user, despite me only having a few posts on this forum, and it would be nice to get this one working the same as others, from a personal point of view. But it's not a problem at all, I'm happy to go with what you thinks best for this particular site. See you around.
